I had heard rumors from a couple of sources (that do NOT live on GE Place) that the end was near. However, the good news is someone else is very interested in putting another restaurant there.
IMO-That would be a great spot for THG to move to.

Ruydah and I are signing a lease tonight to take the place over.
THG paid your old friend next to nothing for that place and packs it nightly. The bar at Figo is smaller....no? Would have to put a fortune into it to reconfigure that place. Not to mention decor. Your worst idea ever, Yoss. May never forgive you for that one. Start thinking back inside the box.

I envision Figo space with a lounge area where the bar is as you walk in...some chairs, a couch....move the bar into the front of the dining room by the Main Street windows....and have tables in the back. Present set up is just plain stupid. And I welcome the manager telling me that I am wrong.

I've been looking at that place, as well as several others in Geneva/St. Charles...I would be very interested in this board's feedback as to what they would like to see in that spot...from looking at this board, it seems like a number of good concepts have come/gone in GE...if you can provide any examples for other restaurants/concepts in other locales that you think would work in GE/Figo spot I'd much appreciate it....
Atmosphere is everything - and that's why I loathe THG. I will not go in that place anymore; it's dark and it's damp and worse, it smells dark and damp. There's an odor there that is not yummy food smells, and as someone who's very sensitive to things like that, it turns my stomach. So no matter what they serve or how friendly the staff is - which I don't think they are - I will never go in that place. (To be fair, I felt the same about that location in all its previous incarnations, and so I've learned my lesson. It's the location, pure and simple.)
I thought Figo was OK; I wasn't crazy about their food but it was better than, say, Vittorio's. Yet I go back to Vittorio's because of the atmosphere, and that was the problem with Figo (and also Honey, IMHO.) Big, empty cavernous spaces that were always cold and noisy. I want cozy, I want intimate, I want warmth in my restaurants. (Which is why I love Glen Prairie.)
As far as what we could use here - I'd love a good steakhouse. No more Italian, though. I'd also like a really great Tex/Mex or Southwestern place, too. (I don't consider Santa Fe good for anything but a cheap, generic meal when you can't think of any other place to go.)
Ala Einstein's? I like it. Let me think about it and talk it over with my partner. My guess is the village would not like it as that is a tight corner. Any sort of exterior work to the entry way would be difficult. But you're right....the present entrance is less than impressive.
I hate the thought of two entrances. People walking out on their bills and such.

Not often does RonKas have any bright ideas and now that I think about it, rarely has he added any relevance to any discussion, but his idea of a piano bar is genius.
Feel free to defend youself Ron. Heh...heh...heh...
