We have opera tickets for Saturday night-and we're hoping to take the train downtown. Can anyone recommend a restaurant near the Opera House? I've read about Lloyd's, Rivers, 312 & Nine. Any experience with any of those? Don't mind paying for a good meal, if it's worth it.

I like Greektown for pre-opera. Fast, close enough to walk if you're early and a short cab otherwise. I like many of the places there and usually end up at Pegasus. The value in Greek Town will more than pay for the cab.

Mmmm....opera....I'm so starved for culture, wish I could've offered some help on this one. Sorry, Herms.

GESM-I'm sure my husband would be glad to offer up his ticket to you Smile I at least tried to pick one that he might (try to) enjoy (Marriage of Figaro).

All good places to eat. I've had timing issues getting in and out in time for the opera at Red Light and Marche. I never even tried Blackbird. I hate having to rush a restaurant that does not like being on the clock.

One North Kitchen is good (not great) and is directly across Wacker from the Lyric entrance. If you can get a reservation there (tell them it is for the opera), it is the most convenient. 100% of the dinners will be getting out in time for the start of the opera. They know how to get you out on time. The chicken was very good last time I was there. This was my go-to place if I did not do GreekTown and whenever I thought the weather would be bad.

NOTE: You can not be late for the opera. They will not seat you one second after the start And they start exactly on time. They do have nice flat screens in the basement lobby where you can wait until the first intermission. This is not like a Broadway play where they say you will not be seated but they may seat you at their discretion. There is no late seating. Period. Give yourself plenty of time to be in your seats and read the playbill. Do not be late.

How about a "to go" from Bistro Monet and your own bottle of wine on the train? Or skip the food and just bring wine.

Ron...I'm beginning to like the way you think.
Maybe wine would be a good addition to the BBQ cookoff too!

Sepia. Service was excellent-right away, they ask you if you are seeing a show and what sort of time frame you are working with. Food was good-especially if you are a carnivore. Decor was very nice.
