A good "breakfast cook" is worth his/her weight in gold.

Try getting behind the line, have several different egg orders placed at the same time, each prepared differently, then cook them, along with other stuff that goes with them and finally get the orders out in a timely fashion so the order is complete, the food is hot and the eggs are done just right!

Unless the owner and or manager is capable of jumping behind the line and cooking, as well as expediting, you've got some serious problems.
These are things that are never thought through and these are the things that will kill your business.

I am currently eating a Steak Sandwich from Honey, while watching the 3 tour challenge, drinking a Sam Adams Winter Ale and typing this. Take out was an hour wait, but that was okay, they took my cell phone number and I decided I would walk around downtown. I did a little networking and talked to a few store owners, bought some extra Christmas presents and enjoyed the Downtown area for the hour I had to wait. I got the call, got my food and went home. I absolutely love the Steak Sandwich, I wish I actually had another one now. To be honest, my wife will probably no see grilled romaine salad, but only the empty container.

Noticed today that it was a lot warmer in there as well.

I think Honey is doing a fine job and I cannot wait until they start doing dinner.

Looks like someone is doing his best to try get his photos on the walls of another Glen Ellyn restaurant. Big Grin

I have yet to step foot in this place but hope to soon. That being said, I have never seen anyone dining in there. Not the back room where one could mistake the chairs resting on the tables as a sign that the place is not open when it really is open (tip. . . buy an upscale Glen Ellyny ribbon or rope to block the back room off so diners won't sit there). I realize I am looking at the wrong time and I am certain people are eating there, but I rarely see anyone in there. That brings about the question. . . why did it take an hour to get a steak sandwich to go?

That thought comes to mind...no matter the denials. That place needs something on the walls. Maybe Alexei Ramirez photos?

The 58's walked into Honey Dec. 26th in the middle of the afternoon, not to eat but to peer at the new (downsized) menu. No dinner items yet. Place was packed front to rear. No chairs upside down on tables in the back. Also no hours posted on the front door yet. Owner needs to decide when they're gonna be open or not. Bad for business keeping open hours a secret from potential customers.

Ditto. One of the reasons Mr & Mrs. Yoss have not stopped in.

Mrs Teddy and I had breakfast there yesterday. My wife and her friends have taken to eating at Danby's for breakfast from time to time. I have enjoyed it as well, but yesterday offered the opportunity to try something new. Our kids are with the inlaws until the weekend, so I decided we would try Honey. I had the 3 on 3 omlet and my wife had the pancake party. The portion sizes were just about right, the food was prepared well, and it had even had presentation that you never get at Danby's. We enjoyed our visit. Will we return? Probably, but only on special occassions. The difference between paying $30 for me and my wife eating versus my whole family eating fore the same price does make a difference to me. But then again up until last month I had been unemplyed and in serious school debt. Now at least I have a paycheck.

Congrats on the job, SOT. I'm not a fan of breakfast out. I really enjoy eating dinner out, but not lunch or breakfast. Kind of the same thing with movies during daylight hours. Hate them. Just seems like you're missing out on the best part of the day. Will do it every now and then to appease family members. I remember eating breakfast at Egg'lectic one day before heading out to Marmion and cutting down a tree. With tip....four people....nearly $60. That was the last time we went there. I don't even find it that great. Same goes with Egg Harbor. Just so overrated.

went to egg'lectic once. so-so food for over-the-top prices. the worst of it was when they charged me $1.50 to add a few diced onion pieces to my hash browns. i asked the manager if it was a mistake -- he said no. i offered him a second chance to rethink his decision and retain me as a customer. for $1.50 he stared me down and stuck to his guns. what a nutjob.

that was about 5 years ago. never been back.

ps: clam, note the hate reference above. see you tomorrow.

Finally went to Honey for the first time today for lunch...had the tuna melt special. Quite yummy, even lacking the whole grain bread which they were oddly totally out of. The service was very friendly and helpful and our food came out pretty quickly. We were seated in the back room and didn't notice any of the excessive noise that others have complained about. We'll definitely go back, perhaps for breakfast next time!

honey was also out of several menu items, including wheat bread (!), during my last visit. i REALLY, REALLY want to like this place, but it still has a ways to go. my meal was ok at best. our server was attentive, but sadly had to spend a lot of time apologizing for the number of unavailable menu items. the atmosphere and square plates are cool... but not enough to make up for the so-so food, imo.

I still haven't gone to Honey...until I hear there's a real chef, with the entire menu available, I'm just not going to waste my time. I hope that the owner does a big PR push when/if that time comes because until she does, I'll remain under the impression - right or wrong - that the place isn't operating on all cylinders. And I won't be inclined to go.

Don't forget booze. An eatery needs booze. I need booze.

Can't enjoy myself without booze.
