A personal friend of ours is supplying Elizabeth's wine, so my guess is *yes* to the liquor license.

We had dinner at Honey tonight and it was excellent. And yes, we were able to enjoy wine with dinner (a good Gruner Veltliner at $4.95 a glass). It worked really well with our meals which were 1) trout stuffed with beets and 2) risotto-stuffed squash. Topped it all off with passion fruit cheesecake. Service was excellent and we felt really fortunate to have the opportunity to be there before they formally start their dinner service this weekend (this week would constitute something of a soft opening, I suppose). My concern is that down the road this excellent restaurant will be so popular we won't be able to decide to pop in on the spur of the moment!

That is only weddings. I was raised catholic. My grandparents went to a catholic church that had a service that would barely crack 1/2 an hour... |

Popped in last night, again, my third trip within the last few weeks, to get which is starting to be my regular- Dark Chocolate Latte. (also try to get the Peanut butter Raspberry bars, which are divine and very close to my recipe). Pretty empty in there, it was after 6:00 so maybe they had their crowd or it was coming. In any event, they still stated that 2/1 was official date and Wed/thur were testers. Makes sense, since people probably didn't know to go. I wish I didn't have dinner on the table already for my husband -I would have stayed. I'll probably try lunch alone one of these days. The food is not my husband's taste. On another point, are we the only ones (BB People) that knew it was open last night? Are we still the 'trumpeters'

Lupechennel, please share your recipe in the recipe section, that is if it isn't a closely guarded family secret! I split one of those peanut butter and jelly bars with a friend one day and, wow, they are really good. Wish I could have gone last night. Was at work too late. CAGEYM, great review. You sound like you know your food and wine! Cheers to the success of this new business venture and to its helping give a boost to our downtown. |

Finally went to Honey's tonight with Mr. Scribbler. I really want to support new business and town, truly - and we do. With that said, I don't think I'll be rushing back to Honey anytime soon. There was nothing egregiously bad about it. The wait staff were nice - if extremely tentative; the place clean, the menu looked interesting, and the food was OK. But for $70, I want more than OK. We found the atmosphere, the decor, not very cozy or inviting, especially for dinner. I'm sure that it was designed for more of a breakfast/lunch place, so maybe that explains it. But we thought it was cold and drafty and echoing.
The food was OK, as I said - I had the cheesy grits and shrimp - OK, nothing outstanding at all, and I've definitely had better in the South - my husband had the steak sandwich. We each had one glass of wine, and we had dessert, too - no appetizer or salad. Or even a basket of bread on the table, either - that was a little off putting. So basically for $70 we each had two things to eat, and one glass of wine to drink. Again, if one of the two things were spectacular - either the atmosphere or the food - I wouldn't mind paying that. But I know many other places, some in the CBD, where I can pay $70 and get either good food or a good atmosphere or a good bartender with fun drinks. (Honey only serves wine.) Maybe I'll give it another try for breakfast, but right now I have no desire to go back. I wouldn't NOT go back, if someone else wanted to go, but I wouldn't suggest it when going over our dining options, either. |

I was going to go there today for lunch. Looked at the menu at home to decide what I wanted. Got to the Pot Roast and remebered - Hey Shannons now has Pot Roast on Fridays. HMMMMMM -Shannon's Pot Roast! Went there instead! So now, maybe I'll try tomorrow - Saturday. I double check the items again and decide what I want. I wonder if they have specials of the day?

It's official
Hello, We are pleased to announce that we have our liquor license and dinner begins tonight! Our new hours are: Monday -Friday 11 to 3 and 5 to 9 Saturday 9 to 3 and 5 to 9 Sunday 9 to 3 Our deli/bakery and coffee bar opens at 6:30 am weekdays, 9 am on the weekends and stays open all day until closing. All of our bakery items are made fresh in-house everyday from scratch. Our pastry chef, Anna Davidson is always bringing something new to the case. Come early for cupcakes (or call to reserve), they often sell out early. We have new desserts on our menu, too. Our passionfruit cheesecake is a perfect balance of custardy sweetness and tangy passionfruit. We also have a chocolate mousse served in an edible chocolate shell that is rich, beautiful and delicious. Most breakfast items are available on the lunch menu for those craving their breakfast burrito or french toast kabobs, etc. We have made some great additions to the dinner menu. We have a cheesy grits and shrimp in a white wine sauce that is the ultimate adult, down-home comfort food. We have seared scallops on a bed of spinach with a beurre blanc sauce. We have trout stuffed with herbs and super thin slices of beets and potatoes, served with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. We put our filet mignon benedict on the dinner menu, so you can have breakfast for dinner and as the menu says "look pretty darn sophisticated while doing so". It is beautiful and people love it! As always, all of our chicken is free-range, our beef is naturally raised grass-fed and our salad greens are organic. Our beer selection offers a dozen or so choices, mostly micro-brews. Almost all of our wines are by the bottle and by the glass. Chef Lisa Westergaard is taking over the deli case with fresh and fabulous ideas to grab and go with. Stop in to see her weekly inspirations starting Monday. We are happy to fill your carry-out order, just call us at 630-469-0000. Marie is a new manager on staff and she is happy to work with you on catering and private party requests. Thank you so much for your support. We hope to see you soon! All the best, Elizabeth Janus HONEY 499 N. Main St. Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. Ayn Rand Anthem |

Heads up, Elizabeth...if a short, stock, balding gent walks in and orders a glass of ice with dinner...he is sneaking vodka into Honey!
Sounds good. Time to drop in for dinner. |

Well, it looks like no breakfast at Honey for Yoss. Is it just me or does 9 a.m. on weekends seem a little late for a place to start serving breakfast? And don't get me started on the changing hours again. From all the reviews I've read, I want to have a meal there, I'm just not good at committing the hours to memory. We went to Glen Oak at 8:00 and they were doing good business at that hour. Decent food at a good price and business hours I can count on. "Deck the halls..." |

As a comparison, Moondance Diner in Westmont - which is my absolute favorite breakfast place in the western suburbs - opens for breakfast at 7:00 AM; Juicy-O in Downers Grove (2nd favorite) opens at 6:00 AM Mon-Sat; 7:00 AM on Sunday.
Both are what I consider upscale breakfast places - a step or two above GlenOak or Danby Station, although maybe not as "elegant" as an Egglectic type place, but the food, at both, is much, much better. But the prices at each - particularly Moondance - aren't really that high; not as high as I'm assuming Honey will be. |

Just back from Honey.
It took sbout 30 minutes to get a plate of eggs with potatos that were less than warm. The cheesy eggs were brutal (must have been the cheese), but the omlet was very good. Won't go back anytime soon. It'll be the dependable , not excpetional, Glen Oak for me |

There are hidden costs of driving to Westmont that make the higher prices at Honey seem VERY attractive. Gas, depreciation, TIME lost...all add up to paying for one or two extra people that aren't dining with you.

We ate at Honey's this morning. Enjoyed the meal but the service was very slow. I had to wait over 20 minutes to pay from when I asked for the bill. This is one of my biggest gripes when it comes to service, and is a big turn off.
I love Glen Oak. The service is very dependable. I really miss Pete Letsos, he was a close friend a very nice man. |

Hi,
I feel bad posting this as I really do want this restaurant to succeed. But we had dinner there the other night and it was so-so. I've been there for lunch and thought it was very good. But for some reason the place just didn't seem the same for dinner. The lighting was odd, it was cold where we were sitting, and in general I thought the food was just 'okay.' The good news is that a glass of wine is only $4.75. Not bad. But I'll caution you....be careful what you order for your children. Ours had the chicken pot pie and it came out so hot that we literally had to let it sit there for almost the entire time we ate, so it could cool off to a point where he could even think about touching it. |

I feel badly too.
I'm not a Honey lover either. Been there 3 times and hope to God no one else says let's go to Honey. Danby is awesome, and Glen Oak is dependable, good staff and comfortable. Honey hasn't given me a thing to talk about, My orders were always luke warm and average. Downers Grove is way to far for me, but those choices do sound good. |
