based on how slow it's been, it doesn't look like there's any way they'll be open before Dec 1. There were still pipes laying about that looked like they needed a home.

they won't. i talked to the owner today. says perfect world they'll open in a week. he told me they're working hard to pass final inspection. i'm sure that anyone who has gone through building or renovating a small business space can relate to that predicament.

suffice it to say, they're working their butts off to get it done. can't wait for opening day.

Turning an old space that has never been a restaurant into a restaurant cannot be the easiest thing to do. God love 'em.

I personally received this from Liz:

Hello Clamato,

Thank you so much for joining our e-mail list. I'm sorry not to have communicated sooner, but every week we think we will open next week and then we are thrown a curve and it becomes the next week.

We passed our health department inspection last week so thought we would open Monday. Unfortunately the building inspector will have to visit us again before we can do that. So, still I can't give a specific date.

Our staff is awesome. Our food is amazing. We really can't wait to open. It just may be another week or so. We hope we will see you soon. We will send another e-mail once our doors are open.

Thank you for the wonderful support, it has truly helped us through the challenging times!

all the best,

Elizabeth Janus

Actually if I call a government number, it usually goes through with just 7 digits, like if I call the DuPage Courthouse or Sheriff! Weird.

What are the chances that the Village of Glen Ellyn is dragging its feet on a final inspection? You know...just asking.

Sure looks ready to open to me.

I had the meatless breakfast burrito, wife had eggs, and the kids had pancakes. My burrito was awesome, very different than traditional. It came with infused cilantro sour cream. Wife ordered her eggs medium/easy; however, they didn't come that way and she was a bit disappointed (not the end of the world). The smoked applewood bacon was delicious and very thick. We both understood its their very first day and will definitely go back, no question about it. Thumbs up!

The other thing I love about it and will be giving them my business vs. Einstein's for Saturday and Sunday mornings is that there is a snowball's chance in hell she is going to be giving free coffee away to the bums. Wink

Awesome, I won't have to get past Stinky McSmokes to get in.

Lunch today was devine. I had the grilled cheese and a side of fennel. Both were wonderful. The coffee is so good. Elizabeth has done an outstanding job!

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

Went for lunch. They were very apologetic about how long our meal took (we were at the late end of the lunch crowd so the kitchen was backed up). The kids and I enjoyed the ambiance and conversation while waiting and I know it will improve. Day one is always unpredictible.

The food was EXCELLENT. I had the Beet Salad. I love beets! To be honest, I wouldn't have minded a slightly larger portion of greens with the beets but the kids couldn't eat all of their food so I was able to try a few of their fries. In the end, I was plenty full. My older child ordered the Grilled Chicken (with fries) which is served on a pita with feta, tomatoes, and ztatziki (sp?) sauce. We asked for all of those on the side as she is very picky. I ate her feta - yum. She couldn't quite eat the whole sandwich so we brought it home for Dad to eat later. My younger child had the kid's burger with fries. We asked for it plain but it came with cheese, tomato, onion, and lettuce. We just took that stuff off and he liked it. It was a small burger but he liked the fries so much, he filled up and couldn't finish the burger so that came home to Dad too.

The bottled root beer is not traditional - it's ginger, cinnamon, vanilla root beer. These are subtle flavors but the kids knew the difference right away so I should tell Elizabeth to list on the menu that the root beer is a little different. Kids like their root beer straight up. Smile Mind you, they still drank it.

All in all a really nice and tasty dining experience. We will definitely be back and know the speed of food service will improve. It's a beautiful setting and very comfortable. The wait staff was great.

You know, I originally wrote it ending in able but changed it...harkens back to the 4th grade in the all school spelling bee when I was given the word "edible" to spell. E - D - ........(hmmm, is it "a" or "i"?).....A - B - L - E. WRONG! I'll try harder next time.

We popped in to check out the menu. We bought a brownie and a Snickerdoodle, both were very good. We'll probably stop by for breakfast tomorrow after mass.
