I sorry but $ 2.50 for a tiny, mediocre (at best) cupcake is just ridiculous. And that "Dunkin Donut" filling they call frosting is just bad. My 2 & 4 year olds wouldn't even eat them... First experience here for me, and will probably be my last. I would not have even bought them if I hadn't promised my son I would bring him home a cupcake....

I went to lunch there with a fellow BB-er the other day. My meal was a good as I'd remembered from the last time I'd dined there. The Market Sides are a great way for me to make selections. Our server was pleasant and attentive - but not overly so. The place was very full at lunch. Total tab = $30.

We were both too full for dessert, but I did have a cupcake there before. I have a fantastic sweet tooth, and I, too, was not as impressed as I'd hoped to be with my chocolate cupcake. Frown

I've had a few muffins there and they are the best I've had in a long time. I love the banana/oat. Smile

We stop in about once a week and get cupcakes as well. I think they are da bomb (as the kids say). Especially the strawberry one. And $2.50 for a cupcake or $1.75 for a cookie, and a nice stroll around town, is not unreasonable.

I've yet to dine at Honey, but have tried their cookies and several occasions. I find the cookies to be excellent, especially the sugar cookies with frosting.

So you don't find it unreasonable to pay $30.00 for a dozen cupcakes?

Sweet Mandy B's has some of the best cupcakes, almost twice as big and about 30% less $$$$.

All I'm saying is it's the little things that people remember about these establishments. I totally wish them the best of luck, but not at the expense of ripping people off.

That's enough about cupcakes for me.

mmmm... Sweet Mandy B's cupcakes.

In all honesty, that was what I was expecting when I went into Honey. I know you should not go into someplace new with predispositions, but I can't help but think that was why I was disappointed.

Restaurant review: honey in Glen Ellyn
By Jamie Sotonoff | Daily Herald StaffContact writerPublished: 5

Some people might consider honey to be "a chick restaurant," because of its bright, modern decor and menu of pretty and health-conscious foods.

However, both male and female customers agree that one word describes this new downtown Glen Ellyn hot spot: Yum.

Elizabeth Janus, 45, the former owner of Good Works Gallery in Glen Ellyn, opened honey in November 2007. She has no previous restaurant experience.

"I just knew Glen Ellyn needed this," she said.

Apparently, she was right. Honey quickly gained notoriety for several of its menu items, including a plain-looking vanilla cupcake with to-die-for buttercream frosting (one of our tasters simply said "Holy cow!"), the Triple Chocolate French Toast Kabobs, and the gluten-free peanut butter cookies and French toast.

The menu emphasizes comfort food -- such as the rich chicken pot pie or the grilled cheese sandwich made with arugula, basil pesto and aged white cheddar.

A team of bakers comes to the restaurant at 5 a.m. every morning and bakes all of the breads and desserts fresh, making the small display case at the front of the restaurant almost irresistible.

Our trio of tasters recently enjoyed a lovely lunch there, complemented by a friendly staff and nice bathrooms (always a bonus).

While not every item our panel sampled earned a five-star rating, everyone said, "I'd definitely come back."

Name: Kate Kalthoff

Age: 38

Hometown: Naperville

What I ordered: Sweet potato fries with Harissa dipping sauce to share with the table ($3.95); grilled chicken sandwich ($9.95); chai tea ($2.75); vanilla bean cupcake ($2.45)

Taste and presentation: The feta cheese added something different. But I expected to taste the tzatziki sauce, and I didn't. If I ordered it again, I could have ordered the tzatziki sauce on the side. The sweet potato fries were seasoned just right, not overly salty. You could taste the sweet potato and not the seasoning. Plus, the sauce was the perfect compliment.

Atmosphere and service: The servers really knew what they were talking about, and they appear to like working here and like what they do. I didn't feel rushed at all.

Good if you want … a nice neighborhood lunch. It seems like more of a chick place to me, though.

Name: Terrence Wittman

Age: 42

Hometown: Roselle

What I ordered: Mushroom and goat cheese strudel appetizer ($4.95); Mini Burger Trio ($12.95); brownie ($2.45)

Taste and presentation: The strudel was flaky, and the mushrooms were perfect. I would have ordered four of them. The burgers were a little too small, and the buns were a little too big, but the flavor was excellent. I didn't care for the fries, because they were a little oily. I think shoestrings would have been a better choice.

Atmosphere and service: It's nice. Bright. It's not loud. And I think the service was very good. They refilled my iced tea three times.

Good if you want … a nice lunch date place. I could bring a client here, but probably a female client.

Name: Laura De Luca

Age: 47

Hometown: Wheaton

What I ordered: Creamy asparagus soup to share ($4.95); chopped salad ($11.95); gluten-free peanut butter cookie ($1.50)

Taste and presentation: The soup was really good, but not as an appetizer because it was so rich. I liked the salad, but I didn't like the big pieces of bacon. They seemed a little undercooked. It had big pieces of egg, though, and I liked that.

Atmosphere and service: It's really nice, open and airy. I liked it. The service was very good.

Good if you want … a nice healthy place. It's more for someone who's health conscious than weight conscious.

That mirrors your last experience from what you told me. Personally told me. Sounds about the same.

I FINALLY got to Honey for b-fast. I really enjoyed the food - had the brie, sausage & pear omelette - and the coffee was excellent! I took some cupcakes to go; the chocolate frosting was amazing. The service was good for the most part, despite the fact that I got handed someone else's bill. The only thing that dampened our experience were the two LOUD group of ladies having breakfast as well. That back room is a veritable echo chamber. I could barely hear my friend over the cacophany. I'd likely go back, but maybe sit in the front part...

Yep, the sound in there is really bright. I don't mind so much when we are just there for fun, but I've done business lunches there twice and it can get a little tough. And I'd certainly never take anyone with a hearing problem there. I wish they'd maybe add tableclothes (wouldn't that help the sound) a little? I also wish they'd serve some muffins, bread or crackers when you arrive. I always go in hungry!

I don't think that loud ladies are limited to Honey. I find that some women tend to attempt to out shout each other. I find this very annoying and try to avoid those situations. Trust me, loud can be heard in a heavily draped and carpeted room. I don't understand this extreme need to be heard.

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.
