Bates, I agree, Arlington Heights does have a very vibrant downtown. But, it was not without it's own growing pains. We moved to GE from A.H. and saw all the changes, some good, some not so hot.
One of the nice things to keep and eye on is the http://www.metropolisarts.com, nice little theater with some shows for the kids too. But, then again, saw a great show down at The Morton Arboretum Sat. night. Now, about Honey. I want sooooo bad for this place to make it. I also want soooo bad for it to be good. I like the vibe in there, the art and even the way the menu sounds. But after having an "incident" with one of my meals, sorry folks. Wish you luck, I will not be back. |

Honestly, there aren't any places in GE where the food is so good it makes me weep. Don't get me wrong - we go to Shannon's a lot, Figo now and then, Vittorio's, too - but none of them for their food. Shannon's for convenience, since it's pretty reasonable; Vittorio's because we love the atmosphere and the people (just wish the food was on the same level). So we do patronize the restaurants, and enjoy ourselves while doing so. It is nice to know there are so many choices right in our backyard.
But when we want a super duper meal - not just a convenient way to avoid cooking at home, but excellent food on the level I can't personally attempt - we tend to go elsewhere. (I know people talk about the French restaurant, whose name eludes me, but I can't get my hubby to eat at a French restaurant, which annoys me. Of course, he can't get me to go to an Indian place, so I guess we each have our cross to bear.) Still, I have much higher hopes for the future of the CBD restaurant-wise, than I do retail-wise. |

Scribbler, you really have to get you husband to go there. Believe, me, I have never been and still am not a French Restaurant kind of guy, but this place is great. If I'm expected to wear a tie to eat somewhere and pay someone for the honor, I wouldn't go. This place is not like that - business casual is fine. There's no pretentiousness at all. The servers are good. And the food is great.

Middle, I had to read that a few times before it made sense. At first glance it sounded like you said you have never been there. I was not certain why you were such a big fan.
I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog. |

Add the Glen Prairie in the new Crowne Plaza on Roosevelt to your list. We ate there last week (with me sulking about the thought of being seen there) and the food, sevice, and decor were very good. It will definitely be a place we will go often.
I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world. |

I almost wept at Cab's pork tenderloin. It's that good!

Pork tenderloin. Mmmmmm . . .
You folks don't know how good you have it. There's something wrong with the meat here. It has no flavor. Maybe it's missing some chemicals that are illegal out here in California. You can't even get a decent hot dog anywhere. There aren't any places that could even be remotely compared to Portillos. Italian sausage? Italian Beef? Try and find it. Pizza? Don't bother. At least the Mexican food is good here. |

Lionheart, Portillos does have two CA locations now...

This is the message I get:
We're sorry, but this web site contains enhanced features not supported by the browser version you are currently using. Browser upgrades are quick and free so please take the time to ensure that you are using a recent browser version for your operating system. PC Users Internet Explorer Firefox Netscape Macintosh Users Safari Firefox Netscape *Internet Explorer for Mac is no longer supported by its publisher and is considered to be obsolete. - I can not upgrade to any other browser, and Netscape gives me the same message. Frankly, I'm surprised that any company would deliberately cut themselves off from potential customers. I have never gotten this message from any other site. They may display funny, and I can't get Flash content, but I've always been able to read some content. Blue Echoes, same goes for your site. I get the front page, but can't see a single photo. |

Exactly. Speaking as one who taught web design at COD and elsewhere... design for your proposed audience.
If you're designing for an intranet -- a corporate or other closed network where the IT department decrees the hardware and software and everybody's standardized -- go for every bell-and-whistle the system can support. And... if you're selling products or services to, say, high end graphics pros, you're probably safe assuming your prospects will have the latest goodies. But... if your prospects are "everybody"... design for the lowest common denominator. (You'll note that this page has a pull-down menu at the top which leads to site sub-directories... information duplicated by the old-fashioned links at the bottom of the page. Grandmas and Grandpas using the same AOLv3 browser that came with the computer their kids handed down to them in 1997 won't see the pulldown... but the links below will always appear. But if you must inflict the latest-and-greatest... build your site so that it "degrades" automatically and naturally. If the designer is smart enough to build a page that sniffs out which browser is being used so it can say, "You can't use this site!", they should be smart enough to automagically switch to alternate pages that will work with legacy browsers. I rest my case. |

Lionheart. It has always been that way. Steaks that have no flavor. Go to Kelly's on 2nd Street in the Naples area of Long Beach. You can taste the difference.
For Italian Beef and Chicago Dogs, Joe Mantegna has a place in Burbank called Taste Chicago. Never been there, but heard it was good. Gino's East has been out there for years, but the product has suffered with expansion. Ronald M. Kas |
