For the last time its Honey NOT Honey's. There is not a person named Honey who owns it, runs it or works there.
It's getting a little annoying. |

Yes, Clam...please tell us about your experience at Bistro Monet....errr....Honey Cafe. We wouldn't know anything about your thoughts on Bistro Monet as you haven't been....that's right....not once. So you wouldn't know if you loved it or HATED it. |

Way to go, t.a. In all these years...I have never seen MD/DSt.H go off about anything.

well it REALLY hurt. . . and now you're comparing me to a dead woman? man, you're rough. honey's: i think we're jest funnin'. you're very protective of this gal, aren't you? why don't you drop in and spend some $$ at her upscale establishment (let's say $50 for a breakfast for clan clam). i'm sure she'd appreciate that as much or more than your kind words on this site. hell, there are non-friends of hers posting on this site who have been there twice already. when will you go? as i'm sure you know, money talks when you're opening a small biz. much love, crabby nanna |

No idea what you're talking about. You just continue to be a very strange man. Babbling and all. You have thrown me for a loop. |

I have to chime in some protection from evil T.A.'s words toward HONEY.
I have been, wasn't perfect but was good enough to try again (and I will). What I would like to point out is this: 1. Within reason, we need to support these entrepreneurs that are taking a chance at opening an independent restaurant or shop in our fair village. I'd like to stress the word INDEPENDENT here. Honey is not a 'chain' restaurant that has multiple resources. They are a unique experience with a completely unique menu, something that will draw folks to the town and I appreciate this. I also think that due to their independent status, they need a bit more leeway to get things completely off the ground. This isn't a frikin' Chili's or Applebee's for craps sake! 2. That corner hasn't looked as good in the 36 years that I have lived in Glen Ellyn. Even though that horrible corrugated siding is still on, it is freshly painted and inviting. It really makes a much better statement when coming into the 'northern gateway' of our downtown area. 3. I think all of us would truly hate it if we started an entirely new career and were told on the first day that our work 'just wasn't up to par.' There is a reason that most places of business have a 90-day probation period when starting a new job. It lets you get your feet wet and perfect what it is you're supposed to be doing. You can have as many training dry runs as you want, but when it boils down to it, you need the actual experience to truly work out the kinks and excel. My mom was very much like Elizabeth, so maybe I'm a little biased. She had never owned/ran a restaurant before, but took a chance and followed her dream. I was there for much of the process and everything looked great on paper, but she of course had her ups and downs upon opening. If her customers walked away from her after those first weeks, she would have been sunk. But, her customers could see her passion and wanted her to be successful, so they stuck with her and eventually her place became one of the most popular restaurants in the area. That's all. I'll let Nanna Superette tend to that bunion that swells so bad when the barometer drops. Remember, use Epsom Salts Nanna...Epsom Salts. |

Then why did you call me to laugh about my post? Don't deny it...it's already out there. |

well put, GER. btw, i'm primarily being evil to elicit a response from clam. i'm also a very tough customer. if you charge me more for something, i will expect something more in return.
but i can be patient, too. this is a good time to confess that i've gone through rigorous SixSigma training. in many ways it's benefited my professional life, not so much the personal one. |

You are a horrible man! I need to hook you up with that Potts punk. |

GlenEllynite |
Obviously, you're a Black Belt and not a lowly Green Belt. Oh, and anything you do that can cut Clam down a peg or two is perfectly fine in my book. Carry on, as Tim Gunn would say. P.S. - Sorry about the bunion comment...it's a terrible thing to air someones dirty bunion. |

I didn't. You called me to proudly point out that you had written something. Something that you thought was funny. Perhaps even clever. There is something wrong with you. I need to introduce you to that antagonist t.a. Bistro Monet. The best French food in Glen Ellyn. I can easily state that. |

BTW, GER...your post once again proves that you truly are the sanest person on this BB. I'm not one hundred percent certain that that is a hard thing to do around here...but you are.

the higher you climb, the farther your fall. yes, you're king of the BB. but potts and i have mutinous plans. . . . [go w/it potts, i'm spooking him] |

GlenEllynite |
Potts is the king. I am merely his jester. Nothing more.

GlenEllynite |
GER-I appreciate what your saying and I recognize that many of the BB members have a personal interest in Honey. I considered Steve at Firkin's to be a friend and came to his defense on a number of occasions. I also was let him know when things were slipping at his establishment, some which I think contributed to it's demise. If you own an establishment, you need to have a thick skin and listen to your customers. I'm sure I'll visit Honey many times and will probably enjoy it. But the folks that are driving from Villa Park or West Chicago are going to be less likely to be return customers if service and hours are erratic. I've been to The Bank in Wheaton three times since it's opened-food was very good, but service has been erratic. I haven't been to the Bank in over a month in hopes they will get the service thing on track. Unfortunately, staying away until they work out the service doesn't pay the bills.
My point is this -customers are fickle and they have a lot of choices. The economy is getting tough, with energy costs going up, the dollar going down. Americans are going to watch their spending. When your paying $6 for pancakes the experience better be on par with the price. I wish Honey well and want them to succeed, but I also want my money's worth. "Deck the halls..." |

jester, eh? lose the glasses and. . . |

That actually looks a lot more like you than me...if you'd let your hair grow out. As mentioned...think more along the lines of Nathan Lane or Walter Matthau.

Service problems have always -- always -- been the downfall of GE restaurants.
The service at Bistro Monet (GE) and Adelle's (Wheaton) has always been top notch (as it should be). But I can't say the same for *any* other local restaurant in GE. It's tiresome. I, too, had a sub-par experience at Honey's. The deer-in-the-headlights look doesn't work when you're hungry and when you've waited for over an hour. I hope the owner is reading this thread. And I hope the owner understands that it doesn't matter how good the food is -- if the service is bad, you lose. Period. I don't understand why owners don't concentrate more time on service issues -- and insist on excellence in their service staff. Do they watch the service staff? Are they aware of when customers are looking around and waiting? Tip: if you see a customer looking around -- obviously looking for a waiter -- you should go over and see what that customer wants. Is this complex? |
