Sometimes I wonder what Jerry Moore, the editor of a major market publication like the GE News, does all day long.

"The restaurant is the culmination of three years of planning. As the owner of Good Works Gallery on Main Street, which closed in 2004, Janus said she often heard firsthand.....blah, blah, blah."

I realize it isn't the NYT, but if my livelihood involved placing stories that I never read or verified (or perhaps he lives nowhere near GE and has no idea what is open or closed), I would be embarrassed to pick up that check every other Friday. Not to mention he seems to have a thing for Jeff Vrabel. . . least hilarious obversational writer in all local written media ever. So heavy-handed.

Yoss, you just love setting bait out for people to bite at don't you?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm not trying to bait anyone, I'm just a consumer who is tired of poor service. I'm a creature of habit-give me good service at a reasonable price and I will be your loyal customer. You can ask any server that I've dealt with at Firkins/THG-do a good job, I'll tip you 20%+ and keep coming back.

I would rather be here writing about the wonderful food and service at XYZ, but some places make it really difficult.

Michael-I'll put my money where my mouth is-Do you have any recommendations for Mrs. Yoss this Christmas? She is always looking for cosmetics for Christmas and I'd like to do better than Carson's stuff. I'm willing to support your business-What say ye?

BTW-Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

Yossarian,

I am frineds with Michael(even though you think I am him)and a very loyal client. You should have your wife go in, she will be hooked. He thinks outside the box and the product speaks for itself. Go to the website, you will see for yourself. Tell your wife I will go in with her if she is scared.

Love,

I saw people inside today.

Son went in earlier this week with other jr high friends and declared it way-expensive. I guess the SIP day jr highers and GBW's kids won't be hitting that spot. That could be good.

Okay, stopped by during the Christmas walk. There was a one pager on the front door that said something about the chef had a medical emergency and would not return until the middle of December. It sounds like no more food until then...

Dan the Man is correct. Got this the other day entitled "Temporary Set Back":

Dear valued guests,

We got off to a wonderful start and we thank you for the great support.

Our executive chef had a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital on Wednesday. It is not yet known when he will be able to return. He is okay, but unable to return to work now.

We were so happy to finally have our doors open. We are so sorry to have another delay.

We wil try to re-open soon, but it may not be until December 1st. We will then open only for breakfast and lunch. We will get on track and look forward to serving you amazing food with great service.

We are so happy to be a part of Glen Ellyn and hope you will visit us in the near future.

All the best,
Elizabeth and everyone at
HONEY

Wow - I was wondering what was up, as I drove by yesterday afternoon and then today, and it was closed. We would have had my birthday meal there yesterday, if they'd been open.

This is a tough break. It's hard to recapture buzz, and the longer it stays closed, the harder it will be. Most restaurants are under capitalized as it is...I hope the owner was prepared for this kind of situation.

Well, thanks, but I wouldn't exactly call it ruined....still got to have yummy chocolate cake from Portillo's for the birthday cake. Now, if Portillo's ever went out of business - that would be truly tragic.

Does Portillo's still sell those apple pies that were cooked in a paper bag? Those were pretty freakin' good.

Clam, you are showing your age. I think they had those back in the days when they had the villa park store, THE ORIGINAL PORTILLOS.

The only cake I have ever had there is the Chocolate and Lemon....Both superb....

Those pies are from the Elegant Farmerin Wisconsin. You can buy them (frozen) at Mike's Meat Market on the corner of St. Charles and Villa in Villa Park. It is well worth the short drive as the meat there is excellent!

Mikes is on the northwest corner behind the bank in a strip mall.

Portillo's trivia. I grew up in the greater Villa Park area. My mother was good friends with Dick P. waaaaaaaaay back when. He convinced her to come to work for him and offered a spot running one of the original stores. She says she didn't see a future is it. And that, my friends, is why my net worth is about 1/10th of Fish's.

Those apple pies were available at the place on Bloomingdale and North when I moved here from Evanston. So...wasn't that long ago.

IIRC, the original P's was on St. Chuck where that really good Mexican place is now. Near the Ford dealership. I think that's where he had the wagon. Not on North Ave. where the VP store is now.
