Now that the Halloween store has vacated, Bachrach Men's Clothing is opening in that spot. Wonder if the EDC "recruited" them?

Anyone know if there are any plans to make that store look like it belongs in our exclusive, upscale village?

BTW, who the hell shops at Bachrach...if it's the one I'm thinking of.

Us younger/slimmer folk. Wink Don't shop so much anymore, but they do carry a nice variety of mens' trousers and their summer clothes are fairly decent too. Although the two can't compare, I like Nordstrom's the best. The one in Oakbrook used to have a bar within the men's dept. Loved it!

Jeez, we lost still another retailer? We got like, what, 50 bi-jillion kids in this town? And we can't even keep a cheap Halloween store in business?

Those places always sign short lease contracts and close after Halloween.

If this is like the store in Yorktown, they had the most fantastic ties years back - however, pricey.

Bachrach's as a free-standing store? I've only ever seen them in malls. This does not bode well, I don't think. Another example of wrong store/wrong location. I always thought of it as kind if upscale, and I don't generally equate upscale with "ugly freestanding store along Roosevelt Rd." Actually, I don't generally equate upscale with ANYTHING on Roosevelt Rd.

Bachrach's is so 80's. I bought my first work suit there when I graduated from college....Why doesn't it surprise me that they will be setting up shop here in GE? The absolute wrong business in the wrong place.....That property looks like it should house a crappy halloween store.....Bachrach's needs to contract with the designers of Potbelly's. They turned an eyesore into a pretty nice building....

Just because they carry Members Only, doesn't mean they are "so 80's." Actually, I bought my first interview suit there too. Decent for the $.

I'll bet Clam still has got one of these tucked away in his closet.

I'm sorry, but having been in the men's clothing biz for quite some time, I don't think "upscale" when I think Bachrach's. I think Coogi sweaters...I think old Yorktown Mall...

..and other cheesy things.

Somebody said they had expensive ties. I didn't see one over $59 on their site. That's downright inexpensive these days...isn't it?

speaking of upscale villages: number one son and i decided to take a road trip today. we drove north on sheridan rd. from LSD to route 176 in lake bluff. we took quite a few trips onto the sides streets nearer the lake when in kennilworth, winnetka, highland park and lake forest. we really did the off-the-beaten path tour in lake forest. i think my kid's jaw is still dragging on the ground.

btw, we stopped in highland park's CBD. it's been quite a few years since i've been there. wow. it's like having oak brook mall in your CBD. didn't see a bachrach (dropped this in just to stay on topic).

anyway, great time today. if you haven't made the trek recently, i highly recommend it.

waiting for clam's "i know the north shore like nobody's business" reply in 3. . . 2. . . 1. . .

And the Winnetka police didn't arrest you? You're not livin' till you are handcuffed to the cozy wooden bench in their mug shot room. Good memories. Great memories.

Well, I guess they seemed upscale to me in the early '80's, when I was 20, working in an L.S. Ayers in a mall in Indianapolis, IN, and I bought my brother a sweater at a Bachrach's for Christmas. It was the most expensive Christmas present I'd ever bought at the time...maybe a whopping $40!

Glen Ellyn deserves a Paul Stuart. Nothing less will do. An upscale community should have an upscale store.

Amen sir. But there's room for both. Paul Stuart in the Daffy Down Dilly/Villa Bianca/DuPage Trust space. Priceless...
