Actually, it's the PADS offices too....

Not sure how to post this....but scroll down to the bottom. I think this is Schockly (sp?) Park...the micro-park on Penn. across from Karmis.

That Papa Smurf is a pretty funny man.

After a walk into town...that isn't where I thought it was. For the win, who can identify the location of that photo?

bb: what was the outcome of the meeting you organized to talk about the homeless problem in the CBD? who showed up? were there any action items developed? are there any thoughts you'd care to share? is there another meeting scheduled to follow up on any action items?

just curious.

Clamato,

With a photo on a website, on a windows machine you can right click and check the "properties". The photo is from a website "http://homelessmigration.org", so I doubt it is from Glen Ellyn.

Here is the photo reposted on this website (via the image URL).

Could have been an out-of-state visitor shopping in downtown GE. You know, t.a., people travel great distances to experience towns like Galena, Geneva, Lake Forest and Glen Ellyn.

I met with a few folks at the Tap House Grill. We discussed a few issues, but it was crowded and noisy so we agreed to meet one more time to collect all our thoughts. Those of us that met all agreed that the village is fault here. I am thinking we need to put together a written statement of sorts to present at one of the village board meetings. I'd love to hear any of your ideas. I'd also like to meet with Diane and make sure we aren't duplicating any work.

That pic by PS was damn funny!

Yeah, that is an amazing number. What's even more amazing is that 6 of them have been good posts.

You can catch up, Fish. You basically have the same kind of job that I have where you sit around all day reading things on the internet. Just spend more time on this site.

Thanks for resalting the wound. Actually, I drove to mccormick place today and parked on a side street. I threw the plate on the dash...no ticket.

I did receive a letter from Arnold Scott Harris, P.C. Attorneys at Law. Portion of letter is as follows:
---------
We are amazed you have ignored our requests for payment in full of your parking ticket(s). This is not something to ignore. Our law firm has been retained by the City of Chicago to pursue you in relation to the amount due....blah blah blah...
---------
pretty darn rude to me....

I was driving home last night on Roosevelt in stop-go traffic and out of the police car open window was dropped multiple peices of paper. ie not just once but repeatedly - maybe a wrapper or something.

All I have to say about this homeless situation is, blame it on our illustrious Mental Health system. As an insider who when not in the Army works at Elgin Mental Health Center. Cut backs from our State Government has caused the Hospital to admit less people and keep them for a much shorter time. We are also working with the local counties to provide more outpatient care. The local hospitals and overcrowded jails also take care of the in-patients we can't be funded for. This being said all of our beautiful peaceful communities now have a problem. Favorate hangouts are around train stations, parks, and any place they can get liquor and cigarettes. Our Mental Health System only provides them with a minimal amount of psychotropic meds due to these wonderful folks not having any or adequate health insurance. Drug of choice for these folks alcohol. Lovely world we live in Huh? I knew it would be only a matter of time before our communities would have to deal with this issue. I know this is a long post but I had to say my piece.

.50 cent Tony was downtown GE today panhandling outside of Starbucks. About an hour after I saw him asking folks for .50, I saw him walking northbound down Main Street with a case of Shlitz Schlitz (no kidding) slung over his shoulder. He must have made the purchase at Malloy's. So at least I know now what he does with the $.

Yeah, I know he and at least two others aren't homeless. Regardless, he shouldn't be panhandling and Wayne shouldn't be passed out, slumped over to the point where his head in his lap at Einstein's either.
