Hi:

I have been meaning to post this for some time. About a month ago my family went to Shannon's for dinner. They had a card on the table advertisng the new Butcher Shop owned by the Shannons people (in Lombard). To go along with this, Shannon's added some steak items to their menu (from the butcher shop). The steaks are "choice" quality (so not top of the line $$$$ -but not Ponderosa either). As I recall I paid 15.99 for a strip steak, potato and vegetable (the sirlion special was 10.99 or 11.99). Anyway-it was really good-especially for 15.99!

Sometimes I am in the mood for a steak, yet don't want to break the bank (or cook it myself-especially when it is too cold to fire up the grill). Just thought I would post this here as I haven't really heard anyone talk about it.

The stunning blond had the filet last night and it was terrible. Fat, gristly. Sort of like Clam, but cooked. I had the "pepper hanger". It was advertised as the best steak you will ever have. Not much better. To their credit, they took $12 off the bill, but not because the pretty boy waiter noticed her picking and hacking away at the steak. Attention to the tables, other than if someone needs another drink, please.

Note: If you are going to be featuring your steak as "from your own butcher shop", make sure they have a better quality than the cheapest meat you can find at Jewel. It should have never been put on the grill.

A group of us went into town Friday after dining at the super-exclusive Klas...a Czech restaurant in Cicero. It was housewalk night so the town was crawling with 37 year-old hotties. We tried to go to Santa Fe...no go. Jammed with women...couldn't walk in. Being married, we knew that nothing good would come of us hanging out with that crowd. All of us are that much in demand. They'd have been all over us. So we wandered down to Cab's...same situation. We settled for Shannon's....absolutely dead. When we arrived, there were 3 married guys on one side of the bar, a tres desperate 50 year-old woman (drunk) in a Las Vegas t-shirt, and a couple that could not keep their hands off one another...given their age (40ish+)...I am guessing they were not married....to one another. The dude's clothes and glasses had sort of an 80's thing going on that led me to believe that he somehow time traveled 20 years into 2009...woman was cute, though.

So there we were....7 married guys, one drunken 50 year-old woman hitting on 7 married guys (she didn't seem all that interested in me, though...so maybe she wasn't that wined up) and one groping couple. Kind of a depressing scene...even for guys who rarely have a boy's night out. We vamoosed after one round.

If she were drunk enough to find you interesting, you best call her an ambulance! Wink

Over the weekend we made our first trip to Clancys (the butcher shop that Shannons own) in Lombard and bought pepper hanger steaks to grill for Mothers Day. It was delicious! My husband grilled over a hot fire till it was seared outside and rare inside. Quite a mothers day treat! I will go back again.
