Hubby has a b-day this weekend, and we're spending it downtown (Chicago).
Looking to have a great steak, and martini. I'm thinking of Gibson's, but we haven't been downtown in a while, and I thought there may be somewhere more interesting. Any thoughts?

Capital Grille! I don't eat a lot of steak, but I love Capital Grille's steak.

Gibson's is more of a show....which ain't all bad. Lots of pro-bowlers in the bar. But....my guess is he won't need that. By no means is it the best steak house in Chicago.

When Morton's is on....they are on. I would stay away from the Viagra Triangle locale and shoot for the one on Wacker Place. A lot of dudes in the office like David Burke's Primehouse in The James Hotel. Never been.

Best steakhouse....IMO.... Keefer's. Outstanding.

Seriously, MI? Plain as the nose on your face...

"I spy . . .
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani Wednesday dining at Rosebud Steakhouse's patio and being recognized by every passer-by ..."

Everyone knows that Fan rolls with The Giul.

Ah, didn't look for that Clam. I figured that Fan had just accidentally pasted the address to one of his crazy right-wing websites instead of the Rosebud website.

Pro-bowlers?, Viagra Triangle? Mr. KK is more than intrigued. I think we'll try Keefer's. Smile

David Burkes Primehouse is really good.

But I had the best steak in my entire life at Ruths Chris. It was perfect and it was so tender I think I could have gotten away without chewing it. Highly Highly reccomended.

This questions is asked by myself and my hubby all the time. We like Gibson's and have never been disappointed there, used to LOVE Magnum's (but they're gone from this side of town, but they do still have one location somewhere, I think.) Harry Carey's isn't bad. But my hubby just read an article about Keefer's, so now I think we'll give it a try the next time we crave a steak-and-martini dinner.

Sullivan's in Naperville isn't bad, either, now that I think of it.

Interesting coincidence - - or does Clamato have a secret identity when moonlighting as a restaurant critic?

Keefer's review in today's Sun-Times

He gave Keefer's 3 stars. The rating didn't show up on my browser.

This is a seriously good place to eat.

Yes, Clamato - "He " gave Keefer's three stars, which means excellent. Wink

The newspaper notes that four stars would be considered "extraordinary."

Very sad to hear of one of my favorite restaurant's decline

Don't know why, but I have always disliked the Chop House.

Strike that...I know why. Worst decor of any restaurant. You walk in and see these Regan-era Hunter Green walls.....a bunch of old sepia-toned photos....with a bunch of 10-inch tall brass letters spelling out what is in the photos and dark wainscoting...carpet always had a hint of dirt to it....felt like I was eating in someone's basement. Food was a meh for me.

Another we don't hang around with one another, Ron. Frown

versus

...not to mention better food....again, IMO.

Where you gonna go?

Last time I was in Chop House, there was a beautiful, stunning blond at my table, and I could not have cared less about the pictures. Were there pictures on the walls? Who knew? She ordered lamb chops as I recall. Charred and rare.

Have not been in Keefer's. My loss. I am sure the blond would be just as stunning.

We haven't hung out since I dropped a glass on your driveway. Unforgiving host.

Didn't you throw a martini in my lap at THG last year?

No one mentioned O'Brien's on Wells. It's been so long, I had forgotten about it. Great place, many memories.
