Thanks for the many well wishes. A run on response would be...
I see the expense amortized over the next 2 or more decades, I am scared everyday too, but after looking at the saying -"What would you do if you knew you would not fail?" on my kitchen sink everyday for the last 4 years, I decided to live it instead of look at it. I don't like the anonymity when you guys know who I am, where I live, what my stairs look like...email me The landlord is responsible for certain costs, but I am responsible for working out the details. (Like, why are there 40 phone lines from upstairs running through the middle of my shop and what do we do with them...we made the call to the phone company, the owner took it from there. We discovered the leaking pipes under the floor, the owner had them fixed over a weekend... I've done my share of taking up room on this message board with my wordy blogging. I am crazy the next few weeks, so don't expect to see much of me. It isn't that I don't care - remember, if you have any questions or comments about Bells & Whistles you can email me. Or tug my ear at the taste. Shamless plug for Glen Ellyn Infant Welfare - a great charity organization for Glen Ellyn. They are still selling tickets for next week's house walk. Let me know if you wish to support this great cause. I know the ticket sellers. Watch for a new addition to the Festival of the Arts and get ready for a very fun Scavenger Hunt coming up in June! Courtesy of the DGEA. Finally, Get seats early for the 4th of July Parade - Bells & Whistles will be bringing back the Soda Fountain Float tradition. It will be Historic and Snackery relevant! Til the taste! |

Ugh, that makes sense...I could only come up with Glen Ellyn Bitter Boys from a blog I'd seen. Do you have a date? I'll try to make it so I can put faces to code names. Thanks!

Nobody is as excited as Smokey McSmokes.
He was already staking out his spot all afternoon in front of the doorway. He's already claimed "dibs" on that locale! |

That's STINKY McSmokes

Sorry... For some reason I had "Scabby" McSmokes stuck in my head. Smokey McSmokes was the best alternative I could come up with. |

Do we know the smoking gentlemans story? Is he a local?

I think so. He's been around a LONNNNNNNG time. He's definitely degraded in recent years though.

years ago the GE news did a profile on him...he is from wheaton. hard for all involved when there is mental illness in the family, and that probably affects many of us.

I saw him today at the downtown post office. He has a p.o. box and was reading his mail in the lobby. I bet he's hiding from the mob!

I'm a long time Einstein's coffee drinker and patron. However, since they remodeled, I love the paint job, hate the coffee bars. If I want to drink a beer, I can go to a bar! When I drink coffee, I want to sit at a table and face the person to whom I am talking. Einstein's ruined the sense of community when it took out all the tables by the windows. The back room is just too noisy and chaotic, and now there is not enough seating. I refuse to sit at a bar to drink coffee! I sure am hoping Bells and Whistles will bring back that small town community feeling. Einstein's sold out and has become a corporate-designed coffee shop like so many others. Tracey, I really am looking forward to having a shopower who understands the dynamics and history of Glen Ellyn. Thanks for all your hard work and much luck and success to you.
P.S. I vote for no bars in the place. |

Hopefully, B&W can keep the PADSers from claiming the seats by the windows for hours at a time so the patrons who pay for their products can use them.

I couldn't agree more. I thought the coffee bars would deter indigents, but they persist. They were at Einstein's this morning. Pretty frustrating. I have the same concerns about B&W Snackery as you do. Geez, sometimes I have to hold myself back from saying something really nasty.
