My oldest bug was working last night. Steady night and one 'hobo'. Clam?

Easy, Bug...that "hobo" may have been Dean Clark. He was there, also. So...it is easy to think that it may have been me...but what about him? Why not him?

Ha! That's because my butt is meant to be placed in peoples' mouths, not on their laps. You're such a silly man.

An extremely intelligent poster had commented on BWS's pumpkin scones with cream cheese frosting. This poster is right once again...simply tastebud heaven... Razz

... rumor has it the supplier for the scones/muffins is an older couple from Wisconsin who drives them down especially for BWS. Pretty cool ...

Bought I mix of scones for the boys and I this A.M. Couple of pumpkin....couple of cranberry. These things are fresh from the oven and beastly good. Not baked in Olathe, KS and shipped in. They almost have the consistency of a sweet biscuit. Was hoping for the cherry almond...but no go. If you have not tried the coffee here (and I understand the difficulty of attempting to kick the SBUX habit...I still go there M-F in the big city) you really should give it a try.

They also have the best breakfast sandwich that I have ever had in the Western Suburbs. Not that I can physically afford to eat them on a regular basis...but they certainly are good. No lines in the morning, either.

Finally popped in B&W to try it out. Had the tuna sandwich, I would not recommend it.. My lunch date noticed the stack of 3 boxes of gloves a foot away from the girl making sandwiches with her bare hands and asked that our sandwiches be made with gloved hands. I did ask if they are supposed to use the gloves and the girl responded "I do not know" I asked what they are for and got the response again. Just seemed a bit gross but maybe that is just me.. My husband said he ordered a coffee and the cup smelled of wet basement.. I wonder if the paper products are stored in the basement???
I am open to trying it again, it is a nice place.

I worked in kitchens in my youth...anywhere from Ground Rounds to upscale French dining...I spent a few nights in Charlie Trotter's kitchen. I have never seen anyone wearing gloves. I understand they are readily available now...but seriously, WTF are they for? To the best of my knowledge...nobody died from any food that I have prepared in my lifetime...and I have cooked a lot of meals. I am in the process of making dinner right now...sans gloves.

Don't get me wrong...I am all for cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the kitchen. And that includes frequent hand washing. But when did it become safer to have what could very well be just as dirty latex gloved hands making your chow?

FWIW...never had the same experience with the java cups...and I get my coffee there a lot. Perhaps it was the smell of the natural cork cup holders? That's my guess.

Well, I think the gloves would at least help the guy or gal that just wiped their *** and did not wash their hands before heading back to work.

If you think that doesn't happen at Charlie Trotters kitchen, you are kidding yourself. Heck, it probably happened tonight at a house on Glen Ellyn Place about 20 minutes ago.

The kitchen at Trotter's is no different than any other upscale/middle of the road kitchen. That was my point. I guess what I am saying is that if the prospect of a person without gloves making your sandwich makes you queasy...you had best stay at home.

I am a morning person...and I rarely cook breakfast.

I once went to lunch with a guy from Switzerland (I know that sounds like the beginning of a long, interesting story, but it's not). Anyway, the guy totally FREAKED out because the person handing him his food was also the same person who took his money. And apparently, the same pair of hands should never handle money and food. I guess. According to the Swiss, at any rate.

I understand that money isn't the cleanest thing in the world, but honest to God - what more do you expect when you're standing in line at a McDonald's during lunch hour?

Scribbler, That freaks me out to. That is why the counter staff does not prepare the food.

US4 you should tell the owner, Tracey. She really wants to know what goes on when she isn't there.

If it makes you feel any better, I was at B&W once with my parents. Tracey was not there. We watched as a lady came in with a cat, and all the staff, save one or two, ran over to pet it.

My parents and I watched in amazement as each and every person who left their station to pet the cat walked over to the sink and washed their hands.

They all looked like they were in their teens and no one told them to to wash up. They just did it. We then watched as those with various tasks washed their hands frequently when switching duties back and forth.

I think this is hammered home with kids these days. At home and at school. I think parents are reinforcing it too. I know I reinforced with with my nieces and nephews and I see them wash up and I hear the sink faucet in the bathroom when they are in there. I'm not a compulsive disorder person, but use to be in the health care field and I basically have dry hands due to frequent washing, not the weather. Just a habit of mine as well I tried to pass on to kids.

How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Clam, I know that most of my food is not prepared with gloved hands, however, the gloves were next to the sandwich making station for a reason..I would assume. To grab cold cuts you have to use your nail to peel it away from the stack of slices...GROSS...although the employees probably wash hands prior to preparing a sandwich, I doubt they use a nail scrubber. I know, I am being over the top.. I guess I agree with a prior posting on this thread, the kitchen or food prep area should not be in the open. I rather not know what is going on.. As you mentioned I am not going to die but I am going to be grossed out and lose my appetite. I would love to borrow your book! I live across the street from Fan! Smile You know, the guy with the bright lights in his backyard!

Remember when Subway would cut a wedge shape lengthwise down the center of the bread, and then pull it out (with ungloved hands)prepare the sandwich and then shove the wedge back in ontop? When did they change that policy and just start slicing the loaf?

I will give it to that dope and you can grab it from him. Very good read. Made my wife read it after the thirtieth time I heard, "You really should open a place in town" line. Hasn't said it since. Let's see....a third of the income and twice the work. Sign me up.
