Although this has absolutely nothing to do with B&W, it an interesting tale. We were having dinner at the top of a hotel in Las Vegas and Mr. Scotty, who loves to cook, was standing at the window to the kitchen watching the chef. The chef was stirring a pot of one of his creations and tasted it. However, he continued using the same spoon. Mr. Scotty went to the maitre d' to advise him of what he saw. The maitre d' simply looked at my husband and said, “oh he would never do that!” We have not been back to any restaurant in this hotel since that time!

I don't need to see my food prepared. I often think of the commercial (can't remember what it was for, but I'm sure one of the GEBBers will) where the woman is standing in front of a rack of sausage, they ask her what's in there and she says, "You don't want to know."

I told the poor kid working behind the counter this morning that he did not need my name. That he was going to pull a scone out the case, put it in bag, walk over to the coffee machine...pour me a large coffee and hand it to me...and this was going to take approximately 39 seconds. No need for my name. No need at all.

Clam, That's funny. This morning he asked for my name and I asked why he needed it since I was the only customer in the place.

I'll tell you why: They're making a list to post behind the counter of the PITA customers. or Maybe he wanted to friend request you on Facebook. Your name would have been quicker than your refusal and query. You two are difficult.

They always ask your name. And I totally understand that...when the place is full...or even has 3-4 customers. But when yours truly is in there...solo...just get my ******* coffee. Or I can get it myself. I can do that. Used to work in that biz years ago. I can grab my own coffee, scone, etc.

Have some fun with it and make up names. I am sure you could come up with some very amusing options.

GEM, GEM, GEM . . . you are going to have a ton of fun as your boys get older. Your, wife, however, will want to strangle you. I was thinking of more wholesome, less "Porky's" type names. How about Mike Raffone or Otto Graff? Here is one for these times: Owen Moore.

I am laughing - not as much as I laughed yesterday at the fart smell blocking underpants link - but, yes, those are good, clean names to give the counterperson at B&W!

So, as often happens, I departed the train this evening with about 10 minutes to spare before a meeting in the CBD. "I'll grab something quick," I think to myself "to snarf down for dinner."
Einsteins? No - closed for the day. The convenience store? Nope - long gone.
While any of our downtown eateries are great about preparing takeout, I wasn't that thoughtful to call ahead. Dashing into Bells&Whistles, I thought I'd settle for a scone and a drink to go. As I head to the bakery case, a staffer says "We also have another case over there." Low and behold, they have a standing fridge, with wrapped, PREMADE SANDWICHES, SALADS and other goodies on display. Perfect! My mood lightened. My tummy was pleased.
Who knew? I did not. Thus this long post so that you now know, too. Thanks B&W!

I had a meeting over at the Civic Center a few weeks ago at 7:00 pm. Similarly, I wanted to have something to eat, but it had to be quick since I was off the train a bit after 6:15. Went into B&W, and when I mentioned I was looking for something fairly quick, the staff person showed me the premade counter, but asked how much time I had and told me which warm entrees were do-able in the time. I love that place!

WOW! I’m a little surprised over the fuss here about asking name (other suggestions could have been Robin Banks, Seymour Butts or Harry Bach), I just told them my name - Dr. Pepper. Love this place! Fresh coffee, Ice cream, (a separate place for my kids) cake and a desire to return downtown to the kind of place you want to walk around and enjoy. Nice antiques – maybe this is where the village can put the fountain?????? “I’ll be back!”
The best answers make sense without the questions being present.
