1) Dispute with EDC over proposed sandwich shop in competition with Honey (supposedly resolved) 2) Water issues (supposedly resolved by city) 3) Dead downtown 4) Anyone that has spent more than 1 week in the area (as the developers did when they were working on the building) would know that a grocer across the street from Grace Luthern and 1 block (and in viewing distance) from 1st Congragational would basically be taken over like the other businesses in the area and become another de facto homeless shelter. 5) Significant amount of work to fix building and pave parking area 6) Have you seen the street they would be situated on? Why would a grocery store want to have a window that faces that toilet that is the former Kamis carpet store and that red "house" that no one / no business will EVER lease.
You can't really blame the investors for pulling out of this situation...

Not to mention the outdoor pooping grounds at Schock (!!!) Square...which could leach into the water supply and poison the shoppers with E-coli...perhaps even the whole village!!! It would be nice if President Hase would pack it in early and get on with her retirement in Alabama. She'd be able to brag to her fellow shuffle boarders about how she was village president in an exclusive suburb of Chicago...and we would have a village president that might actually take a stroll up and down a street or two to see what might help get this town get back on track.

Seriously, are these the reasons Glellyn? Word on the street is that a doggie supply store is openng in what is soon to be the old bike shop.

You never know when you'll need dog supplies that aren't readily available at Target or WalMart when you are doing your bi-monthly shopping. I hear there may be pet photography involved, as well.

I was being half-sarcastic. The first bullet, from what I have heard, was true...but supposedly resolved. Dog Supply Store?? Not the handmade soap or custom craft/gift store I was hoping for. They must see a niche in the market left open from the previous dog supply store failing and closing approximately 1 mile away.

People fail to realize that, while people in Glen Ellyn have money, they tend not to spend it on stuff like that.
But perhaps I'm wrong. The candle store is still in business. So is Big Kernel and More.

Just want to amend my description of the new dog supply store - there was nothing about pink sparkly sweaters in the description I read in the EDC newsletter - upon further review, it appears a bit tamer.
From the EDC newsletter: "Puparazzi Boutique & Gallery, a unique pet boutique, has signed a lease to take over The Bike Shop space between Einsteins and the Prairie Path at 449 Main Street. The Bike Shop is preparing to relocate into larger space at 495 Main Street, north of the tracks. The new boutique will offer collars and leashes, holistic and natural dog food and treats (dry and frozen raw food is planned), pet photography services, and unique retail items using pet photos like tapestries, bags, and some artwork."

I actually need a collar. I hope Rich gets out of that space fast. I need that store to open...so I can get a collar.

You can pick one up for the new puppy, too
