Now, Clam, you are being contrary. GEM stated that the suggestion was to first move the Fire Department. I don't know to where.

As for the Busy Bee, I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that it was to provide a tunnel (!) to access that lot behind the Civic Center. It has been my experience to have never actually found a spot in there.

I must state again - I have never had a huge issue finding a place to park in Glen Ellyn - but I don't mind walking a little. Smile

that parking area, given the surrounding grades, would be another candidate for a two-level garage, with the underside being for the cop cars and muni employees and the top level being for shoppers. Garbage collection for the businesses would be a bit complicated, however.

And rather than raise Busy Bee, why not just knock it down. Lord knows there're other spaces available.

Anyway, congrats on post 999, GEMom2. Make the next one a winner. Quality, not Clam-ity.

Oh. That's totally different. Some might say completely different. Contrary isn't the word I'd use....rather, misreadedness. Even though it's not a word.

Here is my great idea for parking: Deck the lot that is by the train tracks along Crescent - where they put the carnival for the Taste of GE. There are no buildings to tear down, it is centrally located and people already are accustomed to parking there.

If someone else already had my great parking lot idea, I do apologize for claiming ownership. And while I am at it, I will apologize to Clam for calling him contrary. Smile

Happy Fourth of July to all!

What a wonderful 1,000th post. But how in the hell are you going to fit a parking garage in a space that currently serves two rows of cars? No room to the north or south.

What a stupid idea. Big Grin

GEMom2-As with the common sense approach, must be that country upbringing. Big Grin

Fact of the matter is the Village could have saved $100,000 and just have and a round table of residents, business & building owners. My guess is that a group of citizens could have done better than what TBS has come up with.

Happy Fourth of July everyone.

Brilliant idea GEMom2!!!!!!!!!! I also have an idea: GEMom2 for Village President.

I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world.

I take back my apology to Clam - I think he is contrary! In fact, I just looked in the dictionary and there was a picture of him right by the definition for contrary! Razz

It's a deck - ramp in on one end and out on the other for the top level. You could even cantilever over the sidewalk a few feet if it were really necessary. The people walking in the rain and snow to the train from the Llibrary commuter lot would appreciate that overhang! I think the row against the tracks is currently perpendicular to the wall and angling that row of parking would be an improvement. Smile

Brilliant idea? IT WON'T FIT.....unless, of course, we close off Crescent between Glenwood and Prospect. Then it would fit.

I have a good slogan for the next Village President that I wanted to run past Dean Clark. "We Can Only Go Up From Here." or "What Could Be The Harm?" Which would be better?

I need you to drive that big trucky thing of yours over there now and look at what is on the south side of that fence. Then...pace off the number of feet from the fence to the curb (I'll let you go to the curb...call it a friendly variance). I think you may see that there are very few 2 aisle parking garages these days. To make it economically viable....it would probably need to be 12 stories tall. Your idea is the worst ever and I simply may not be able to think of you the same way again.

BTW, there is still a lot of anger about that undelivered Chicken Caesar Salad...in case you couldn't tell.

Well, everyone knows each of us will very soon be driving a tiny car with a very efficient engine and very small turning radius. We might even be able to fit four rows of Minis in! My proposal is (now) a green initiative - for small cars and the drivers who love them. I am not a selfish person.

Also - If this tone keeps up, I will have to make arrangements for your Soprafina fix. That must be some salad!

GEMom2-I still like your idea.

Trust me, having Clam not think highly of you is no big deal.

You're such a kiss @ss, Yoss. You know I'm right. It's just popular to disagree with me.

Building a garage on that space is roughly akin to building a floral clock in the CBD. In this case, GEmom2, your idea represents all that is wrong with this village. I wish you well trying to sleep this evening.

Get some lunch, already. Did you know that a symptom of low blood sugar is clamminess? I didn't see irritability on the list, but that must be one, too. Smile

Did anyone from TBS ever take a realistic approach to the CBD. Instead of making wish lists and pipe dreams, why not sit down with some of the property owners and ask them some simple questions.

Has anyone come to look at the available space?

If so what were their concerns?

What type businesses are being proposed for the space?

Is your rent in line with the competition?

What can the village do to help promote your location?

What can the village do to streamline the process?

What can the village do to promote comerce in the CBD?

Then they should ask other property owners what they have done to retain/ and lease their spaces?

What were some obsticles relative to occupancy?

Just simple stuff like that, then work from there.

What is all this crap about green space, upgrading the train station. Why not put the commuter parking a bit farther from the station so all these comutters have to walk a block or two past the CBD?

Did you ever try to get out of a mall parking lot? It is arranged so you have to drive past half the stores just to get to an exit.

GEmom2, don't worry, Clam will feel better after he takes his meds. In the meantime... I suggest this:

GEM, you do realize that the rhinoceros is widely regarded as on of the least intelligent animals on God's green earth, don't you? Team that up with the Disney tie...and I think even Vicky should have know what she was getting into.

Look at it this way. It's only $100K. No biggie, IMO.

See GEM, you proved my point.

Here's my business plan. I'm thinking we could set-up a consulting firm called GEMOMSSARIAN2, the name alone sounds very eclectic and pretentious, which would make these villages feel better when handing over the consulting fee. I'm already a Project Manager, and GEMom2 has the big urban assault vehicle that will be sure to impress. Resumes-hey embelishment worked for TBS and I have much better suits (and ties) than Mr. Louthan. We could have people like Candidate write glowing reviews about the kind of people we are. Then we have fancy sounding meetings (charettes)and just take the ideas of the residents, recycle them and voila!

This could be your corporate logo. You could say that GE Mom's kids love the 'lil b@stards. I mean, really, who hates baby pandas? I don't, that's for certain. And this particular baby panda looks confused and tired....like the work that your company will most likely generate.

Ahhh, good ideas.

Don't forget, when you create your website... post a section for your "portfolio". But, only populate with fanciful drawing and models of "projects" that can't be referenced and haven't actually been executed. Meaning: Just throw up bright shiny objects that confuse people that don't know any better.
