I am looking for recommendations for our annual anniversary dinner (we do go out more than once a year, but this is the guaranteed no-child-at-the-table dinner). In past adults only dinners we have gone to (please ignore spelling errors/typos) Adelles, Cab's, Sweetwater's, Mykah's and Les Deux Autres. We have our favorites, of course, but like to try something new for this annual event. I was thinking about the Cellar Bistro. Any other suggestions?

I second that on Bistro Monet. We went to Ra in Yorktown this year for our anniversary. It's trendy but very excellent sushi.

I hate to do this, but I agree with Fan. Maybe not THE best, but a top 5.

Really!! Were you paying? Who were you dining with? I heard some recent research found that the quality of the meal experience was more dependent on the people you dine with than the actual food. Even bad service was overlooked if you were out with people you really like to spend time with.

What did you order? Smile

Our favorite restaurant is Vie in Western Springs. We have been there many times and have never been disapointed.

Amazing Restaurant

Not at all - just seeking information. One of the hubby's former partners can't pass by the place (in the city, though) without going in - so it colored my opinion. Wink

That's all. Smile

Praga in Lombard - right on St. Charles Rd., just west of Main St. We went for Valentine's Day, and really loved it.

I will skip recommending Bistro Monet...and suggest Suzette's in Wheaton. It pains me to do it, but I must.

If you've never had dinner there...I highly recommend it. Period.

Booze and wine galore, too.

But yes...during the day you'd be hard-pressed to find any self-respecting former lacrosse goalie in the place.

Please keep posting restaurant ideas as Mr. Scotty will be taking me out for a lovely dinner tonight and for that matter, the rest of the week. He made some rather critical remarks about the dinner I made last night!

We went to Adelle's for their 1/2 price wine night last Wednesday. The more we go here, the more we appreciate it. It has grown by leaps and bounds from when they first opened, so if you haven't tried it in a while, give it another try.

I had the flatiron steak with garlic mashed and they had a side of sauteed swiss chard (IMO, an underutilized green that deserves a lot more attention) with pancetta that was fantastic with the steak.

Also, the atmosphere and service are great. They have some good, longstanding servers that pay attention to your needs. The patio is truly one of the best in the west suburbs for outside dining (now that 120 Ocean Place/Johnny D's went bye-bye).

Braxtons in Oak Brook for fish!

I've done for fun on my birthdays - Pappadoux in Westmont. Great food, but lighter atmosphere. and I even love - though not always a hit with some people, -Melting Pot. Haven't been there in a few years but it was always a nice long dinner.

If you're willing to travel - Cafe LeCave -Mannheim, DesPlaines, out of this world dining experience! especially for anniversary or birthday.

Thanks for the recommendation! We went last night and the food and service were outstanding. The new martini/wine bar addition is great!

Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. Had a reservation for our anniversary. Arrived 10 minutes before reservation and checked in, everything was "all good." one hour later, still waiting for our table. Wife asked twice during the wait, they said that they were working on it even though we saw empty tables. after waiting 1 hour and 10 minutes, one hour after our reservation time, we got a table. it was placed half on tile, half on carpeting, so it rocked back and forth. We walked by 2 empty booths and 3 tables getting to this table. We asked for another table. They said not a chance, the hostess and manager on duty were complete asshats. We said we had a reservation for a booth, the disagreed. I pulled out the sheet of paper with reservation info, including booth, they said "doesn't work that way" I asked about the 2 booths we passed up, the manager actually told me "those are for reservations, but not yours" My wife dropped the first F bomb and we walked out. Happy anniversary.

I suggest this restaurant for your anniversary:

Never trust an upscale restaurant owned by Houlihan's.
