Regret to inform that Katy's Boutique is closing, a GE icon for years. Always liked that store and picked up some nice outfits for wife and mother there over the years. Too bad. Wonder what happened there.

Gus, I can't quite imagine you shopping for women's clothes. I hope they had a cool return policy.
True, it's been here for years, and I'm sad to see it go....but I never bought anything there. Not really my style, although I went in several times over the years, hoping to find something. But it was too pricey and too Country Clubby for my taste.
But as I know many women in GE for whom the adjectives "pricey" and "Country Clubby" work like a charm, I'm surprised to see it go.
Just as surprising as Katy's going away is news that Gaede's in Wheaton is closing...after 50+ years. Gaede's was a good store. I still remember his ill-fated expansion attempt into GE as if it were yesterday. From Harold's letter:
"After 54 years of associating with the greatest customers a merchant could hope for, I'm ready to rent my building and retire from the retail business. With Wheaton Municipality help, we're looking for a tenant who will be an asset to the town, as well as to us." What a concept!

Gus, Why don't you re-open the Katy's store and sell men's and women's CC Polo clothes.Just the message board folk could keep it alive. If not just put a cellular antenna on it. If that doesn't work make it a bank.
To quell all rumors which are flying around - KATY'S BOUTIQUE IS NOT CLOSING !!!! Katy has been to the Greek Islands in The Aegean for the past month and is now back and in her shop. How very sad that rumors like this get started. I know that Katy's is not closing because I happen to be her brother-in-law and have been with the store since its inception over 42 years ago.

Rumors always start when people or places vanish or close suddenly for a month, now if Katy had just closed early on a Tuesday and talk started to fly that would have been different.

Wow, did you ever see some of the stuff in there? Those pictures were neat too. I kept meaning to ask Michael if any of those pictures were of his family at some point in history.
That place was on its last legs about a month ago......Heck, who am I kidding, it has been on its last legs since it changed over from Michaels.....Someone needs to tell fast food places that if you try to imitate Portillos, Portillos will win every time....
