I just received an e-mail from Barone's about their catering offerings for the holidays. They also have the option of bringing in your own casserole/Pyrex dish and they will bake whatever you order (lasagna, etc...) in your own pan! I thought this was pretty clever marketing, that way you can pass if off as homemade.
I do like the sauce they use with their pasta and even though my own lasagna is better, I'm going to order a 1/2 tray to bring to my sister's for our traditional Christmas Eve feast. I'm all into making it simple this year and not exhausting myself until I collapse after Christmas dinner.
GERing, save your money. Don't buy the pasta from there. Buy it from Frankie's Yorktown Deli. We bought a last minute lasagna from there and it was awesome. My wife even said it may have been the best lasagna she has ever had, and she is an Italian from Berwyn. I know, they are crazy......I know...
Seriously, they have full trays and half trays. You cannot go wrong with that lasagna.......
Full Disclosure: I am bitter at Barones because I ordered a pizza through their website to pick up on my way from work one night, the printer in the kitchen did not print my order, but they were able to charge my credit card with no problem. So I complained thinking I would get something off the bill or a free salad, pop, sucker, anything........They told me to sit and wait and it would be ready in 45 minutes.......I asked for my money back, and junior looked at me like I asked for him to take it out of his pocket and pay me back. Worst service, will never return....
Thanks for the tip. We will try them sometime for sure.
Funny, I just had a similar situation at Barone's for the first time in over 20 years of going there. I ordered a pizza by phone, my partner went 30-minutes later to pick it up and they could not find our pizza. The looked for about 5-minutes because they couldn't believe they didn't have it. It turned out that they must have given it away to another customer (which I'm sure changed what they will order on their pizza forever, as ours was a 1/2 pepperoni-black olive, 1/2 sausage-green olive...yum).
They couldn't have been nicer and told my partner that they would make another, which would take about 30-minutes, but to go home and they would have it delivered. About 40-minutes later, we had a FREE pizza delivered to the manse, along with a FREE salad added in. We were very impressed, but understand that they handled your situation very differently. It's all about consistency in that business and they should have done the same with your situation.
And this couldn't have been south-side discrimination towards IMJ either, as I reside in the slums of South Glen Ellyn also.
See Ring, that is good customer service, and service that you would expect. Have you tried Rox pizza on Butterfield? I have been tempted, but just can't do it yet....
IMJ - Is that the place at Park and Butterfield??? If so, no. If you try it, let me know what you think.
You might want to give Martino's a try in Pickwick, near Trader Joe's/PJ's Camera. That is our second choice for pizza. The family is really nice that owns it and the pizza is good.
IMJ...I was out last night with friends (at Capri on Ogden in Naperville...that's another story...better pasta at this restaurant than I had in Florence, Italy), and both of my friends starting raving about Frankie's at Yorktown and their lasagna! I couldn't believe it wasn't even brought up by me. I'm going to stop in after the New Year and see what all the fuss is about.
GEring, I am telling you, you will not go wrong......I was leary just like you are right now......It was great......As for Capri, that place is great.....
someone told me today about the pasta shoppe and cafe in oak park. sez the food is unbelievably authentic, delicious and, my favorite, affordable. i noticed it got four forks from chicago magazine.
think i'll try it out this next week. anyone been?
