So. Lord knows I want to help out Glen Ellyn businesses but darn, it's just so hard sometimes!
Tonight, Proud Hubby & I went out to dinner to celebrate something. We had a very nice dinner at Reel Club at Oakbrook - seriously good stuff; I've been on the road for a pre-pub tour for my new book, been wined & dined, but nothing was as good as this place. Chilean sea bass to die for. But I digress. After dinner, we passed up dessert. "Why, Proud Hubby," said I, "we have a new dessert place in Glen Ellyn. Why don't we go there for a little apres dinner treat?" "Cool," said Proud Hubby. "However, I don't know how late they're open. But it's only 8:00 - surely they still are eagerly awaiting apres-dinner diners," said I. (Actually, I said "after dinner" diners, as I don't know how to pronounced "apres." But I digress again.) "Couldn't hurt to call," said Proud Hubby. So I did, after looking up the number on my handy-dandy Blackberry. Only to be taken right to voice mail, no helpful message informing me as to their hours of operation. Still, I'm nothing but optimistic. So I said, "I'll check the website on my handy-dandy Blackberry." I did - only to find that the hours were still "TBD." "Dang," said I, for I craved something sweet. "Well, it won't hurt to drive by and see if they're open. Surely they are; why wouldn't they anticipate that hungry diners might want a nice local place to have a little apres-dinner treat?" (In the spirit if truthiness, I must admit I still called it "after" dinner.) We drove by. They were closed. "Son of a ***ch," said I, frustrated from a lack of apres-dinner sweetness. "What the he** kind of dessert place isn't open for, you know - dessert???" (It was 8:15 PM, by the way. Unless you're my parents, that's prime dessert time. And remember, the establishment is called "Dessertz.) So once again, I was mystified by the complete lack of consumer awareness displayed by a retail establishment in Glen Ellyn. As Proud Hubby pointed out (after attempting to console his weeping wife with a fuzzy Tic Tac from the bottom of his jacket pocket), the next time we want a sweet treat, we probably won't even consider Dessertz. We'll only remember that it was closed the only time we thought of it. So - sorry, Dessertz. Please, PLEASE consider 1) putting your hours on your phone message (actually, having a phone message in the first place), 2) putting your hours on your website and 3) - STAYING OPEN IN TIME FOR A NORMAL PERSON TO HAVE DESSERT!! |

Chilean Sea Bass is the most expensive fish on the menu....$29. Your old man must be rollin' in the dough.
Reel Club...Parker and I have been going there since it opened. Top.......frickin'........notch, YO. Seriously pimpin' eats. One of the owners of the D place is the Mum of a friend...she is in her mid to late 60s, not kids....but she knows how to turn out the sweets. So....go there when they are open...during the day. Good shizzle to say the least. |

Since when did you start to channel a 30-year-old slightly out-of-touch rapper, Clam??
But srzly (SRZLY, don't mess w/me w/the kidz speak!) - Reel Club is the shizzle. Wish Dessertz was - will give them one more chance. But I still am ticked off about the hours. (Or - hourz.) |

(And - the old man isn't the only one bringin' home the bacon & rollin' it in the dough. Quite the sexist statement but I'll overlook it.)

Royalties must be pretty amazing...as I have never had the Miso Glazed SB. Saturday...I had the salmon. Only $20. I can only dream about the sea bass.
My BIL had the MGSB when I held a surprise party for Parker at RC about 5 weeks ago. It made him sick (though I feel he had a bug prior to the event). But if it truly did make him sick...it was the best $30 I have ever spent. |

Scribbler, my MO is to always eat dessert when it is available because you may die on the way to the next stop. So far it has worked for me!

Well, they did bring out cookies with the bill, but I only took one. Thinking, of course, I would be having dessert later. Sigh.
Sorry about your bro-in-law, Clam; so far I'm feeling fine. Keep dreaming of the sea bass; it was truly worth it. Salmon? Phhhttt. I cook a mean salmon on my grill, but Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass? To quote Shakespeare (or Sam Spade, depending upon your taste) - it's "the stuff that dreams are made of." |

On second thought, life is short so eat dessert first.

Sorry to hear things are tight, Clam. Even I had the Sea bass at Reel. Of course, I also had a $25 coupon to try the place. Mmmmm, it was so good!

Not that I know anything about either place at this point in time, but Scribbler I wanted to let you know that it's pronounced (ah-pray)....there, now next time you can actually say that instead of "after"

Sorry Scribbler, I feel your pain. You may have saved some frustration if you had read this first:

Appears to be ultimately a bakery, so hence, they'll have baker's hours.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. |

Thanks for the tips on pronunciation, GESingleMom2. And yes, wish I had read that last post on the other thread about the hours.
I still maintain that if you call your place "Dessertz," however, you might want to be open late enough to offer just that. It's not like they named it "Morning Doughnutz." But seriously - I think they're missing out on a good opportunity here by not staying open until 9 or so. We have an early hours bakery already; we don't have a really decent after dinner dessert place. I'll probably give it a try later, but the thing is, I generally don't want a slice of cheesecake during the afternoon. Also, I still maintain that any establishment should have a phone message stating their hours, and a website that does the same. Still, I wish them good luck. |

As mentioned, they are not in their 20s. Perhaps as biz picks up...and judging by the early reviews, it will....they will hire someone to work nights.

So based upon their hours, if they are a bakery, they miss the morning commuting crowd. If they are a dessert place, they miss the dinner dessert crowd.
I guess that leaves lunch dessert. |

I'll chime in... How can I not?
I quite honestly don't think Glen Ellyn can support an "apres dinner" dessert place. I mean... we can hardly support a restaurant, grocery store, card shop, etc... Know what I'm saying? I haven't been to dessertz yet... but I plan to at some point. |

Perhaps, Clam. But that's one niche we don't have, which is all I'm sayin'. Again, I will assert my assertion (um, sorry for the redundancy) that GE could be a wonderful restaurant/bar destination. We already have a few great places, parking wouldn't be the problem it seems to be in attracting shopping destination-type stores. If we try to do one thing well, rather than many things piss-poorly, we might just succeed.

They did a bang up job on the CBD Christmas lights. ****. That's not what I meant. I meant they did a piss poor on the CBD Christmas lights.
Epic fail. |

Two weeks ago Proud Hubby and I were in Bloomington for parents' week at IU; we took our son and 7 of his closest friends out to Mother Bears for a sumptuous dinner of pizza, garlic bread & wings.
At one point the youngsters were deep in conversation and I ventured the phrase "epic fail;" all conversation stopped and all heads turned my way. "Did you just say 'epic fail,' Mrs. Hauser?" asked one of the polite young men. I nodded. "Cool," he said, and they all looked at me with a newfound aura of respect. Clam, you and I are so very, very hip, it's almost a crime. |
