Inside Amy's Brain (imagine one of those cloud things you see in cartoons): Interesting feature article on the front page of today's Glen Ellyn News: "Store's Future Uncertain." Hmmmm, maybe I'll go check out the place. I've never heard of "Treasures of Hope" in Glen Ellyn. I wonder where it is...the article will probably have the address since they are trying to get people to go there for a fundraiser and to save the business. Hmmmmm...*reading*. WTF, where is it? The address isn't there!

878 Roosevelt Road - Now Amy, the GE News is just trying to help you keep your brain sharp by not spoon feeding you information. It's kind of like a Sudoku!!

Oh yeah, I looked it up and found out it was in Baker Hill.
Glad they're making sure I know how to use my resources! "The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. It seems to be a resale shop of some sort. A week or so ago they had some most unfortunate prom dresses on the sidewalk.

Why the **** a charity thinks it should open a retail store in a strip mall that no one goes to is beyond me. Thought that was stoopid from day one. Hope it didn't cost them too many geedahs.
Retail store = sucking money away from charitable work. If I were on the board at the time...they wouldn't have opened it to begin with. My guess is they were given a break on the rent/lease. |

Well of course that is just my opinion. Some people may truly value turquoise or shrimp colored net prom dresses. “Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”—Dr. Seuss |

Treasures of Hope: Terrible location, terrible store display (from what I can see every time I drive past on my way to Dominick's), terrible concept.
Enchantments: Cute stuff I'd never buy because it was all a bit precious for my house, but once it moved I totally forgot about it. Good Works: Love that store but lately the inventory has been really low. Now, we do have some stores that do well. Today, for the first time, I went into Alli Kat and while I personally couldn't afford anything in there in my current frame of mind (I'm getting very miserly in my old age, and I went in looking for sunglasses but all they had were $50 ones which I'm SO not going to pay for an item I will lose within ten days), I have to admit they had cute stuff and seemed to be doing good trade today. Then I went to Georgia Ray's looking for sunglasses, but that store didn't have any and, I'm very sorry to say, was totally empty. In terms of both customers and stock. Really, I can't imagine going back there, there was so little to choose from in such a big space. That's just not an inviting look. Then I went to Giggles & Gaggles, and I was surprised to see they're stocking stuff like Vera Bradley. Last time I was there it was all cheap plastic items you could personalize - maybe it's like that in the downstairs part? I don't know; didn't go down there. THEN I went to 10,000 Villages - not that I thought they had sunglasses. Just because I hadn't been in there in a while, and I was impressed. I might go back if I'm not feeling so miserly one of these days. Overall impression - I missed the days when I used to spend an afternoon in the CBD shopping. I started to wonder why I haven't done that in so many years, and I had to admit it's not just them - it's me, too. I'm just not interested in shopping for idle, foo-foo stuff for my house and my person anymore. I think I'm just in a different phase of my life - too busy, too concerned about the future (one boy in college, another soon to follow), etc. Maybe I'll go back to that place in my life sometime in the future - that place when I liked to amuse myself by purchasing crap. Expensive crap, but - crap, all the same. But right now, I feel like I just don't need any more STUFF. And - our CBD is built on the model of selling STUFF. But also, though - with the exception of Alli Kat and 10,000 Villages, I saw nothing in the shops to entice me back and, in the case of Good Works and Georgia Ray, just not enough of it. (I did buy some potpourri at Schmid's, though. I'm not totally immune to crap, as long as it smells nice.) |

It was extraodinarily unfair to make libelous changes to the Enchantments announcement... here is the original, in its entirety. Please people, think before you attempt to "help"our downtown. -- TedE
-------- The owner of Enchantments, one of our most beautiful lifestyle boutiques in Glen Ellyn, is offering an amazing opportunity for someone with a retail passion and drive to acquire a successful downtown business. Enchantments has been in Glen Ellyn for 8 years and has expanded 3 times. Please spread the word as we want to keep Enchantments open. This is a turnkey opportunity! The current business owner launched her own clothing line last fall called j blond. The new venture is doing very well, so well that in fact she now has 2 successful businesses – and a decision to make. She wants us to pass along that she loves Glen Ellyn and her amazing customers, and this has been an incredibly difficult decision to make. This is why she is offering to turn over Enchantments to a new owner at her inventory cost so that Enchantments will stay open in Glen Ellyn. In the not too distant future, she intends to open another smaller store featuring her new clothing line -- so this is actually a win-win business expansion opportunity for the downtown! Please contact Jennifer Massarelli, owner of Enchantments, at 534 Pennsylvania directly or phone her at 630-469-1989. Her Spring Sale starts this Thursday. What do you mean "we?" I just said it's becoming surreal in downtown GE as one store/business after another goes up for sale or out of business. I then posted a picture of Charlton Heston kissing what's-her-name from Planet of the Apes (best movie ever involving primates) because I thought it was a cool picture. It really had nothing to do with the story... Now that Fan has disappeared for the time being...you get to be the most awful person here. Wear it as a badge of honor, friend. |

Ted, It was an edited version of the announcement with commentaries. The original was there intact. The whole announcement is transparent and insults the intelligence of those it was sent to. Is this "Glen Ellyn's Big Give?" Successful business for sale at cost? Come on!? Its not even believable propaganda. I know your friends with author and have protected her on many occasions on this board. Thats fine. She is a nice person. However, can't we call an Ace an Ace. Its our tax dollars paying that salary and I believe questioning this type of marketing can only improve the services offered by the EDC. I read the post before it was pulled and viewed as more of a parody, rather than the 'libelous' label that Ted gave it. But, what do I know, I've had my share of posts removed...
