I believe it was the Artens who suggested the Village Tavern Over on Schmale north of Geneva Rd. I went there and it was smoky to the point of a turn off. So maybe this year it'd be a better experience.
But the breading at all these places (Village Tavern, Shannons) are just not my cup of tea. In Park Ridge, I grew up eating fish chips from Don's Dock on Northwest Highway in Des Plaines (also have a location in Arlington Heights or Buff. Grove on Hintz I believe). And before we went to Don's, there was a great little place on Harlem south of the Kennedy that has been gone for some time. The breading at these places is thicker, darker, and all around beefier than the type you usually get (that thin light brown, almost translucent type). It also has some sort of magic spice in it that tastes great. I only wish I could get some closer to GE.
Oh, and I've had some fish at the Door County Fish place on Roosevelt in Lombard/Villa Park area. Comparable to what Shannon's and the Village Tavern will offer.

THG has Fish & Chips as an appetizer that you should try. Two orders make a meal. For you Lenten carnivore's a Fish & Chip appetizer and an order of pilled pork sliders hits the spot. Heck, that and a beer and you have hit all of the food groups. Happy Easter to all.

Daaaamn! I always knew there must be some other explanation for me walking out of there pie-eyed. Do you mind telling my wife that they dope the pork, she seems to always want to blame me.

Believe it not a Mexican Restaurant in Addison, actually there are 2 of them by the same owner, La Hacienda, serves the famous "Pink Pony fish fry" on Fridays I believe. Not exactly fish and chips, but same concept! On Lake St., in front of Marcus. Mr. Fernandez bought the Pink Pony years back and still keep some of the recipes.
