Times are tough, Gus. Did I read correctly? Is that just the first round? Who pays for subsequent rounds?

6:00? Oh I can see that one going over well with MRS. Perplexed, but then I'm a tea totaler so what would I do? Drink diet coke in a martini glass?

Ok, this is where I usually get in trouble with the Mrs. Bears game on Sunday - boozing with Gus and Yoss on Friday. I'm in, but only for a little while. Roll Eyes

Maybe we'll get a cameo from JRB? Oh wait, I forgot we despise each other

A Candidate appearance would be nice, I'm starting to forget what he looks like. Wink

Are martinis an acquired taste? I had a vodka martini with an olive at a wedding this weekend. I had to ditch it halfway thru because it tasted so nasty...

You're Your first mistake DTM....you should have requested gin, and only gin. Beefeater is king!

Next, you gots to be careful at weddings. Well vs. top shelf would make a world of a difference, particularly in a martini. Which did you have?

Lastly, as long as you decided on vodka, maybe you should have requested a lemon twist - ala JRB. I'm not so sure about olives in vodka.

JRB, help the Man!

I was debating this, but I figured since vodka had no flavor it would help.

I saw Gray Goose and some others, I can't say for certain which one they used.

Good to know...I thought it would be okay, I'm not a big olive fan and there was no way I was going to order my martini 'dirty' (olive juice poured into the drink).

I cannot BELIEVE I have been out of the loop so long as to miss out on this conversation! Curse my new(ish) job for keeping me busy & away from the GEBB!

Now, if I know anything in this world, it is the sublime pleasure that comes from a perfectly mixed dirty martini. Belvedere vodka (sorry, BB), a hint of salty briny goodness, and a skewer full of bleu cheese olives, served icy cold (but without ice) in a clear, non-curvy-stemmed martini glass. I call that heaven. And, with enough olives, dinner. Smile

I have had a dirty martini at THG, and was not disappointed. Unfortunately, the food at most CBD restaurants keeps me away from both them and their bars. Wildfire serves up a nice dirty martini.

As gin makes me stupid - really, I cannot hold the stuff - I have to opt for vodka. Chopin is my preferred, although Belvedere is almost as good. (However, I'm a cheapskate and keep Absolut in the house.) I really hesitate to call what I drink a martini because I hate vermouth - so it's basically very very cold vodka in a fancy glass with two olives. Sometimes I'll put a drop of vermouth on an olive. But that's about it.

Don't like the dirty martinis, though. Just give me two olives, no juice.

so why do they make martini's with something so nasty as vermouth? I guess it wouldn't be called a martini then...

That didn't work out as I had expected it to. Or Gus. Or Yoss. Or extremely Bitter Boy. The last two seen sadly walking south of the tracks in the mist.

The night got a lot more interesting. We met Ron Kass (and the stunning blonde), Gus, Grateful, Bitter and Jombl at Figo, had an excellent time. Review of the martini's to follow. Many thanks to Gus for picking up the tab, even for the liberals. Wink

My pleasure. We have to stick together. I smell another ref coming down the pipe.

You're funny JR: Yoss and bitter probably looked like a couple of wayward waifs in the storm.

Ronkas and his much better half, Jombl, Grateful, were great to see. I'm finding out that Ronkas isn't quite as liberal as I thought! Maybe it was the alcohol.

By the way, Figo would be a real winner with a piano. The restaurant looks like a natural for a jazz club.

Agree Ron, as nice as Figo is, it needs something to kick it up a notch.

Singing or drinking? Never mind, just let the thought of jombl and Dean Martin in the same sentence stir or shake your mind.

I thought the second martini was unusually stronger than the first, and I also can't say I've ever had more than two martinis before.

I can however state unequivocally that I never will again. No question. Now I'm off to a funeral, argh, this will be a wonderful day.
