WTF. Is Geische Shoes now towing people who park in their lot after hours?!!! Has this always been the case and I missed it? I know the signs are there during business hours, fine, but after hours? Anyone ever had this problem?

In theory, you are parking on private property. Should you stumble out of Tap House and break your ankle or bash your head...you'd prolly be able to sue the shoe seller.
I take it you got towed?

Read the sign. Just thought it was a very unneighborly way to run a business. Why not make the spaces available after hours for use of other businesses in the CBD? These are the types of actions that upset the cart on any or all projects designed to invigorate the CBD.

Does this mean I can park in your driveway, just because your not home?
Private property is just that. . . . Private. Insisting that you have a right to use it because the store is closed is absurd. There are plenty of spaces all around town, park on the south side of hillside or on the north side of gieshe's. Better yet, why not rent the space from them for your after hours parking needs?
If I were going to steal their inventory, the spaces on the side would be ideal, I could just disable the alarm, sneak out the side and fill up my trunk. ( I believe this happened to McChesney meat cooler a few years back) They have some pricey shoes there (I just dropped $425.00 for a pair of boots and one pair of shoes last week.)
Having an open space around the building would make this activity more noticeable. The police may notice a vehicle that isn't suppose to be there and take a moment to investigate before going back to nap patrol the AT&T parking lot.
Hey, why is that guy hauling all those boxes out of the store and across the street?!
I believe this is also one of the crime prevention philosophies that restricts overnight parking on the Village Streets and helps protect your homes.
It's tough to be hospitable and open to shopping in the CBD, since nothing ever seems to be open - at least for people who work during the week and aren't home before 6:00 pm. Actually, I have walked over to the the nice, friendly, pretty eatery across the street from Giesche's, from my car parked in the elite south parking lot - since they're actually open when I get off the train. But, for shoes during the week - I hear Danada calling....and they have more places open to eat, as well.

This "they are not open when I get off the train or get home" is getting very old.
Most businesses are open on Thursday night. Do you get off the train on Thursday?!
Also the hours are posted, and most places are open on Sat and some on Sun.
If the store has something you need and the price is fair, I'm sure most reasonable people can get over there and buy whatever, If not, well then Danada it is, but make sure you get there before 9:00, thats when the place shuts down.
Well, there are times I want to shop on other days other than Thursday (and that one or two night a week deal went out with the buggy whip, sad to say.
From what I understand, if someone really wants to compete, under a capitalist economy, they really need to be competitive, including hours. CBD business owners, or landlords, apparently do not, from what I can see. Those nice folks in Wheaton, or in GE on Roosevelt Road, apparently do. Why do the Roosevelt Road businesses manage to maintain late hours every night, and not the CBD?
I'm tired of people saying we should support the CBD, when the CBD, with few exceptions, seems to want to live in the 1950's - or maybe the 1850's.

It all has to do with traffic patterns, or volume.
Roosevelt road retailers are open later for 2 reasons.
They have the business to support the later hours and generate enough revenue to justify the additional hours and overhead involved. (utilities, employee wages ect.)
Some may be in a strip mall, and are required by the terms of their lease, or franchise agreement to maintain these hours (regardless of profit/loss)
I for one wouldn't stay open late to sell you merchandise if my increase in overhead was greater than the additional revenue(s) generated by the extended hours. Sorry!
Which leads to an interesting question...what if we just contracted the CBD...moved it to either side of the tracks? Built single-family homes on the land? Is the concept of a CBD in a town like GE as old and out of date as the average preserva.....never mind. Has the CBD concept come and gone...now obsolete?

I'm guessing they have a sign that says, "Unauthorized vehicles will be towed by Joe's Towing". They probably have an agreement with Joe's Towing that allows them to tow cars. Joe's most likely did the towing after hours since if the store is closed, there are no Giesche customers.
I know the church we attend (GE Bible) has an agreement with them to use their parking lot on Sunday Mornings. As we approach Christmas time, we are told of extended hours for Giesche and asked not to park there, but that is usually only for a couple weeks.
I saw Midnight Towing tow a car out of Giesche's side lot Saturday night. They were incredibly fast. It looked like they were out "patrolling" the area looking for cars parked in lots where they have a towing contract. The car was more or less next to their "no parking" sign.
