What do you folk think of the argument that it is inappropriate for us to discuss whether the clients of PADS are from Glen Ellyn, DuPage, or elsewhere?
They don't "live in or near" anybody's community, because as homeless people, by definition, they don't live anywhere. Are we saying that they ought to be in someone other's community and not in yours? Is there validity to the argument that homelessness is only seen as an "inner city" problem because that's where the services are. |

First thing that comes to mind is DuPage PADS creed about curing homelessness specifically in DuPage.
DuPage PADS solicits money from the public using this mantra. It's fair game dude! "You shouldn't soil your Sunday pants, like those other foolish ants." |

Q: Why is it nice to date a homeless person?
A: You can drop them off anywhere I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. Ayn Rand Anthem |

Homelessness is a thorny issue. You think you have a problem? Come visit San Francisco. We don't know how to fix it either, so I won't join the debate.
The purpose of this post, though, is to ask about Ted. As a reader of this board for many years, I have found Ted to be very level headed, pragmatic, and in control of his emotions. Yet he seems to have taken a vow of silence. Other than launching a few threads by posting information, he no longer weighs in with his opinions. That's his business, of course, but some of these threads, especially this one, would sure benefit by him posting his wisdom to offset some of the inanity by persons who shall remain unidentified. How about it, Ted, what do you think? |

I think... I think that my diabetic neuropathy has made it difficult for me to type.
But yes, I am highly opinionated about many of the subjects under discussion here... it's just easier for me to wait 'til someone else posts my point-of-view so I can smile and mutter a "go gettem!" under my breath. But thanks for the kind observation. I shall now return to lurking... --TedE |

One of the reasons why I love Minneapolis... one of the most ultraliberal cities/states in the US, and they come up with legislation like this.
One way bus tickets for the homeless!! "The county program, "A Bus Ticket Forward," offers tickets to homeless who can show that they've got job prospects or relatives in another city who will provide them with shelter. The program has existed, in various forms, for at least 20 years. In the last four years, Hennepin County has issued 3,316 ticket vouchers that have sent homeless people to every state but Alaska and Hawaii." Course, neighboring cities and homeless advocates get pissy when these people get off in Milwaukee or Chicago.... |

Heres all kind of solutions! (tongue in cheek) TIC? Apparently we can just make it illegal to be homeless! Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. Aldous Huxley |

It would be nice if we could end homelessness, however we are in the real world. The homeless do have rights, however their rights should not infringe upon others. Their rights end where my begin and visa-versa. Business owners have the right to conduct commerce at their place of business without the homeless scaring their customers away. Today I was (and I say was) headed to the bike shop to purchase a small bike and training wheels for my 5 yr. old. As I approached Rich's store, There was a large homeless guy leaning up against his front window talking to himself. (no he was not on a cell phone) Rather than drag my crew of young ones past this guy, we just kept going.
Sorry Rich I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. Ayn Rand Anthem |

Dude, I'm still waiting. Clam knows where I live and has my work #. Call me and I'll tell you what I am thinking about. "You shouldn't soil your Sunday pants, like those other foolish ants." |

Bitterman...call me at work tomorrow and remind me. I will forward it to you.
Your agency certainly has my number. |

It was Bum-O-Rama when I drove through the CBD this morning around 8:00 a.m.
BTW-Who is going to the GoDowntown meeting at Figo on April 22? TBS is going to be there to get ideas from the VLM. I strongly encourage all to attend, if your lucky, Clam may make an appearance. "Deck the halls..." |

He's a big Steven Seagal fan. I'd call it "fashion". Anyways.... saw the hottie that was leaning on Clam's running around the intersection at Park and Crescent again. Banging on windows. Completely "confused" as to why the cars won't stop for her. |

Hmmmm....doesn't sound like she's on her way to increasing PADS success percentage. |

And the cops are completely "confused" about where and when this might be happening, and unable to do anything about it. |

Hey, back off man. Making sure cars don't remain in a parking spot for more than 3 hours is a tough mandate. If we fail at that task, then the terrorist win!

As I told you before, the bums are off limits. They can pee, poop, drink 40's, beg, overnight it in the park, walk down the street naked, solicit sex, panhandle, play with their ding-a-lings and violate the no smoking ordinance. No problem! Yet, we citizens are warned or fined for not leashing our dogs while in front of our own homes, parking one extra minute beyond the CBD's allotted time, not bringing in garbage cans quickly enough from the curb and having cars parked on the street overnight. The only folks confused are me and maybe some of you as to why nobody in our village has got balls enough to bring an end to this nonsense.

My wife echoed the exact same thing this morning. Went to einsteins with the kids and was disgusted with the entire scene. All outside tables taken up by bums. 4-5 inside tables with bums and their luggage collections. Oh, and the stark raving mad tall black guy conversing with whatever voice he hears in his head. It's gotten to the point where you need to consult the PADS calender to see if a trip downtown is worthwhile. |

Amy stated that she had talked to the PADS people back on March 26th and that they were going to have a talk with the bums about these very issues. I guess they haven't found the time yet. "You shouldn't soil your Sunday pants, like those other foolish ants." |

The reports of too many of these people in our downtown this morning were/are rampant. Apparently, according to one account, the police did move a few groups along... On a more pleasant note, were you pleased with the turnout at the get-together this evening, Ruydah? |
