I find the following very hard to believe:

quote:
However, panhandling shall not include the act of passively standing or sitting nor performing music, singing or other street performance with a sign or other indication that a donation is being sought, without any vocal request other than in response to an inquiry by another person.

So all the bums have to do is get a sign asking for money. Having a sign gives them free reign to beg anytime, anywhere as long as they don't make a verbal request????? I guess its better than nothing, but weak in my opinion.

Check out these folks battling it out in Park Ridge. Battle Over the Bums in Park Ridge I might just have to go over there and straighten em out.

In the link BB provided, it's interesting to note that most of the PADS supporters don't actually have a shelter in their town. Those who do seem to want some guidelines established when the "guests" leave the facility. I referring to the chronically homeless, not the person/family that needs short term help.

I don't understand why PADS can't take their concept a step further and try to find their "frequent guests" day jobs within their communities. They probably will have to be menial jobs, such as cleaning the streets/sidewalks, removing graffiti, enforcing parking regulations. For an honest days work they should get lunch and admitance into a PADS shelter. I'm struggling to see how just "giving" the chronically homeless a place to stay is helping them in the long term.

I am continually amazed at the blatant "landed gentry - gifted village burgher" mentality that pervades Glen Ellyn's undeserving and ignorant citizenry when it comes to the problems all Western Suburbs face with the homeless.

Of all you Republiscum Party members, do any of you realize that it was your hero and god, Ronald Ragoon, the Great Drooler, that emptied the state hospitals and loonie bins and unleashed the problem upon us ? The Great Drooler's call for less government and less taxes for the rich resulted in Glen Ellyn's fine, broad alleys literally becoming dumping grounds....and each downtown dark spot has become yet another pisspost for these victims of the Republicrap Party's cleansing methods.

Your votes for the Republishit Party enabled Dennis Hastert to enrich his coffers so he could resign before his affair with his (MALE) chief of staff, Scott Palmer, became public knowledge. Palmer was guilty of not telling Hastert about his knowledge of fellow poofter Florida Foley's diddling underage pages - and rather than set his lover adrift, Fat Denny did the right thing for his man and left office......abandoning us all and all the FermiLab employees as cuts threaten to close that great economic engine in the Fox Valley.

You Republicunts have much more to be sorry for than the homeless problem infecting your downtown area.

But then I guess you think your stinking little berg is Hinsdale, where I live.

You WISH you were Hinsdale.

I ALMOST wish I was in Hinsdale. They pay less in RE tax than we do! Hey Flange, you are tweaked! Seek therapy before it's too late!

Uh, oh - looks like somebody needs to turn their spellcheck back on!! Eek

I just checked on multiple PADS sites and can't seem to locate when the Hinsdale community scheduled any shelter nights. I wonder if the homeless are having the same problem??

Cmon Flange, lets tax and spend just for the hell of it! Nothing exceeds like excess! Call your buddy Dick Durbin, I'm sure he'll be the first to open his check book.

You know, there is nothing I despise more than a pathetic delivery of a message. Was there something accurate and true in what Flange said? Yes. But it was COMPLETELY lost in the rant encompassing the message. How sad. This is exactly why I like Obama - we need less hostile language. Both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of being slimy and we just can't afford to waste our time on that kind of *hit! Things are pretty messed up and we need people who want to SOLVE problems, not beat the history of everything over and over again.

Did any of you hear about the experiment a documentary filmmaker tried a couple years back?

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/95216/a_homele..._100000_of_free.html

He gave a homeless man $100k and filmed where and how he spent the money. He went and purchased a $35k truck, bought his homeless buddy a $10k car, went to see his family who don't give a sh*t, gave them money too.

Well, long story short... he was broke fast... real fast, and back living on streets in no time. And you know what?? That's where he wanted to be. He lived like that because he wanted to. No stress.

I am not saying all homeless live on the street and off of others because they like it. There are a few that unfortunately were dealt bad hands and lost everything. But sad to say, I believe most don't care to get a job and improve their lives. That is why programs like PADS annoy me. I'm sure every once in a while they really do good and help people in real need. But most of the time, they are simply enablers.

Mental Picture:

- Fat
- Mom yelling to his room at the top of the stairs
- High school diploma (circa, hmmm, 1993?) and COD certificates in frames on this wall
- Been out of work for (guessing here) 10 months
- Perpetually lonely
- Thinking about another game of World of Warcraft... as soon as he can think up another way to spell a political word by replacing a syllable with a "dirty" word

I saw that too, it was very interesting. There was also a documentary on people who won the lottery (several millions) and pissed it all away only to wind up in worse condition than they were in before all of that money.
