Just came back from downtown Hinsdale today. . . . Saw a few empty stores, a couple of homeless hanging around the train station (only two of them)and got a parking ticket. . . . Yup! Its just like Glen Ellyn. (only bigger)

darlili, glad they finally called back. Please let us know what the PADS person does and if some resolution comes from it.

I drove around Glen Ellyn today to see how many bums I could spot. It's a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I only counted 3 and they were all at the library and they were all extremely polite--I spoke with them. None at Starbucks, none at Einsteins, none at the train station. I thought there would be dozens because of the open PADS site tonight at the Evangelical Covenant Church at 277 Hawthorne and tomorrow at the First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn at 535 Forest Ave. If I am reading the schedule correctly Glen Ellyn is sponsoring back to back nights this Memorial Day weekend. Where are all the bums? Do they arrive later in the day? Do they only show up during the week and not on weekends when downtown foot traffic is heaviest? What is the trick to seeing all of these bums that I keep hearing about? I'm a little disappointed.

Hearing about? I thought that you see them all the time? I thought that you couldn't sit at the library because of them? I thought that you wanted to start a group to run them out of town.

I'm confused.

Yes, I'm confused, too. Where are they? Maybe they go to their summer homes on weekends like many GE residents.

I don't know. Sounds to me that you have done your job and ran them out. Great job Sweetmariez.

Yeah, summer homes that's the ticket. Wink

Actually when I was a kid I made some cool forts out of washing machine & refrigerator boxes.

I am starting to warm up to the idea of the sign thing. In other words, in order to beg, the bums need to hold up a sign vs. a verbal solicitation. The sign thing brings visibility to an otherwise invisible population. I'm all in.

Who’s ever idea it was to make the Civic Center, as opposed to our library a bull pen for the bums is a genius. I am on board with that idea as well.

I heard one of the neighbors got a callback this week too.

When asked why they can't allow them to congregate in the parking lot on the northside of the church, the PADS person said the church won't let them because.... get this - there isn't enough staff to keep an eye on them if they allow them to use the parking lot. How scary is that. That's why they are told to not stand on the church property until the doors open at 7PM.

I'm going to take credit for that one - I've mentioned/suggested it to several people. It would be particularly good on Sunday when the Civic Center isn't used for much.

This church is a block from my house. What if they get ambitious/curious and try to seek out the lake?

I'm thinking you hire them to mow/weed your neighbors lawn and clean up after Lio-it's a win-win situation.

This way there would be no reason to shuffle them along to another street. They have a roof over their head, facilities and water too!

Why didn't I think of this earlier?

FWIW-went for a run through Elmhurst early this morning. Saw a person sleeping under the canopy in Wilder Park. Guess Elmhurst has some as well...
