Bell, we are very excited about your place. Actually, my husband and I were discussing it at breakfast this morning at Honey. Will the ice cream be made in house?
Scribbler... you are right. I was not in town when cold stone was. The sign was still up but the place was gone. Very disappointing!
I have the know how (plus, my sister is a trained pastry chef)... I just don't have the $$$ to do it. There are so many times hubby and I want to walk into town for a croissant in the morning or coffee and dessert in the evening. And even though I will make a stop at Starbucks in the morning for a cup of coffee and a scone, I agree, it just doesn't cut it.
Due to the fact we have been without a kitchen since April and all our meals are eaten out, I have a lot of thoughts on restaurants!! Maybe a discussion over some drinks are in order.
My ice cream will be made in Michigan. I have tried half a dozen or more companies and find this to be as close to homemade as possible. They also have a following which will bring new people to Glen Ellyn. Anyone ever hear of Ashbys? Any opinion?
I am at Tap House tomorrow at 2pm hosting a Thank You event for my contractor and construction team. Anyone who wishes to give me input in person or see/hear what's going on inside the Snackery is welcome to join us!
A sudden urge for steak seized the family on friday night. An urge for REALLY GOOD steak. The first place that came to mind was The BAnk in Wheaton, but rumors of police action, and a possible stand-off, forced us to change our minds.
Then it hit us. Ki's! We had been there for holiday meals when cooking just wasn't an option, but never on any run of the mill ordinary day.
What a treat. The blue cheese encrusted filet was superb. But what truly set the evening apart was a concoction from the bar. If you go, I suggest you request a lemon drop martini. Very smooth. The house recipe includes some vanilla liquor, which smoothens out the flavor, creating a more mellow sweet and sour effect.
The kids loved the bag of bread and lettuce graciously provided by the waitress at the end of the meal, so that the chickens, geese, ducks, and lambs out back could be observed close up while feeding.
The best steak we've had yet in this area has been The Capital Grille at Yorktown...but this was to celebrate our anniversary as this place is a bit pricey to visit often. By the way, Adelles has AWESOME short ribs!
You want to talk about "Cougar Central"? Clubhouse in Oak Brook. Its pathetic. As for creepy Older men hitting on waitresses/young girls, head to Redstone's patio for a good laugh.
Had lunch at Curly's on the patio Saturday afternoon with the family and friends. Great sandwiches and the pizza was pretty good too! (sorry born and raised on Barone's).

I actually love Redstone, although I do generally feel old and unhip there. I like the Clubhouse too, occasionally - it's never a place we always say, "Hey, let's go to Clubhouse!" but it's kind of our backup place. Like, if we venture forth toward Lombard or Oak Brook at the spur of the moment to go somewhere nice, like Vic's or Wildfire, find we can't get seated until 9:00, then we always say, "Hey, let's try Clubhouse!" and we always get a table. Usually way at the back by the kitchen, but still.

A round of drinks, two bottles of wine, dinner for four and we got out of Mykha's for $60 per person with tip. I was thrilled. Food was great. Waiter was quirky.
I am a dyslexic agnostic insomniac. I lay awake at night wondering if there is a dog.

We had a very nice dinner at Cab's on Saturday (had to rent a motorboat to get there, of course), for our anniversary. And when I told them it was our anniversary when I made the reservations, we got dessert on the house. Very nice touch - of course, we spent more than enough in alcohol to make up for the cost of a couple of slices of pound cake.
We made a vow to go more often, as we hadn't been to Cab's in a couple of years, at least.
We walked into town last night for dinner. Decided to try Shannons, since it's one of the last spots we hadn't been to and we didn't feel like thai or mexican.
Unfortuantely, even if the food had been good, the service would have kept me from going back. I felt like an "outsider"...the regulars were treated like family and I felt we were blatantly treated horribly. I had been warned by a friend but just didn't listen.
I gave Figo two tries before vowing never to go back due to outrageously bad service.
Now, on the other hand... we stopped into Honey on the way home for a cupcake. What an amazing experience. We were greeted by a friendly young lady. We ordered 2 cupcakes and one cup of coffee. And since they were closing soon, she gave us the cup of coffee on the house. The cupcakes were very good... I'm sure the great service actually made the cupcakes better.
I have had similiar experiences at Shannon's. When I've sat in the bar area, it seems I have to flag down a server. What's really irritating is... Negative comments criticizing an identifiable private individual removed. --TedE
Who would have thought attending to customers is so difficult?
