According to the EDC space report, there is a 3400 sq ft 100 seat restaurant for sale in town. Next time I stop by Firkins, I'll bring my tape measure.

Tonight is the last night that Firkin's will be open. A new owner is set to transition and the name of the new restaurant is not known nor is the re-opening date. Minimal changes will be done to the facility and the menu will be changed.

Fare well in your new endevour EPub and stay in touch.

Wow! I was just there last night with a group - who all very much enjoyed it....I had no idea it was closing for the changeover. Whomever it is, don't keep us waiting too long - but fix the leaky ventilation in the back room near the window. It kept dripping on us all night!
Hope to see you all there very soon.
Smile

Good Luck EPub, we will miss you!

Has anyone questioned why the place is closing/being sold? One reason for that.

GESnob....to bad your friend didn't know of the place up for sale earlier; evedently the price was really reduced from the original asking price.

Myself and other BB members have discussed it with Epub, but I'm not at liberty to say. It sounds like this could be a win-win situation all around.

I'm guessing that the only one who is going to win, is the person buying the place for such a low price. "...not at liberty to say."; that means you don't know the whole story.

Moon...if anyone knows the details regarding the sale of the Firk...it would be Yoss. Not that he is some hot insider, rather a friend of the owner. Why do you seem to take a sort prurient pleasure in the place swapping hands? The owner was a top-notch guy. And the details are really nobodies f@cking business but his.

With regard to why it's closing, I think the owner will freely admit that the Firkin franchises are a bad business model. Team that up with too little income generated...and I think you have your answer right there. Failing restaurants are not rocket science. Expenses are too high, income too low.

I wish Steve the best of luck. It was a pleasure knowing him.

Absolutely. But it's still a location with potential. Isn't that the case with every restaurant? Potential abounds. Just like baseball players.

I know that a friend is moving on to another phase of life and that he deserves nothing but the best. To share anymore would be compromising what I believe is a confidential conversation between friends.

In other news, the GE Village board has approved that the Firkin banner be allowed to hang outside the building...

Clam, the "top-notch guy" didn't even have the common curtisy or the balls to let the staff know that the place was closing/up for sale. Everything was found out second or third hand. So, leaving a dozen people wondering whether or not they might or might not have a job makes it their f@cking business.
Funny how such a bad bussiness model is doing so well in Canada - the 40 places up there seem to be doing just fine. Was it a poor decision to but in a place that was so similar to the Irish place across the stree? Yes. But, he gave up on the place months ago, he stopped being there even when he was there. But hey, it wasn't his money, he wasn't even there the last day of operation. Yeah, real top-notch.

Moon, sounds like you have a real axe to grind. Wouldn't it be EPub's prerogative how he ran the business and who should know what and when? Yeah, might not have been cool to not inform the employees if you are one of the employees (were you? signs point to yes), but look at it from the point of a customer. Would I want an angry staffer serving me or preparing my food? Ummmmm...... no.

Restauranteering has special challenges, bonuses and problems. The staff has just experienced one of those problems. Sorry, but that is the way it is. Get over it.
