You'll have to let us know when you are around and we can meet up at the new place (if the people who buy it give you a fair price) or at a competitor's place (if the people who buy it are jerks). Smile Let us know - I want to see pix of that little baby!

I can back up Steve, I was there a few weeks ago and talked to a couple of the bartenders and they said everyone in Firkin's new of the for sale sign. It's too bad, it was one of few places you could get a good pint of something that wasn't made by Budweiser or Miller.

Good Luck Steve, thanks for the may Patriots games during Football Sunday.

Overall a pretty nice course, especially considering how many dog tracks you can find in that neck of the woods. We played it one set of tees from the tips. I think it measured 6720 yards. (Except for what would have been a 270 yard par 3 (#11) into the wind, the tips would have been the call.) The only negatives are there is no clubhouse restaurant and no beer or cigars in the refreshment cart so you may want to byob. Also, the club has not finished many of the cart paths causing some ugly brown spots near tee boxes. (we played the back nine with a member who gave us the scoop). The club is trying to concentrate on a good course before they spend too much on some of the amenities. Greens are not real fast, but they roll pretty nice. The course is built on a nice piece of property. I'll be back.

Sorry to see firkin's go, but maybe there is an opportunity to open up at this golf course in MI.

Yoss, you don't need the thread back, the place is FIRKIN closed......

Good Info Fish. We have a group of Six going up the end of August and we will be playing, Yarrow Golf Club, Stonehedge, Gull Lake, and Angels Crossing. I have heard from a friend of mine that lives in Kzoo, that it was a pretty nice course but he preferred Yarrow.

Ok Yoss, you can have your Firkin thread back.....

Dr.Beeper-I've got a small crisis going on here and the drivel about golf isn't helping. Wink

I need to find a new establishment that's non-smoking, has plasma TV's in nearly every viewing angle and Cosmo's served up just the way I like em.

Any place that served Alpha King by Three Floyds was high on my list. We ate there often and enjoyed the place. The only problem we ever saw there was that the Bartender would have to walk around out of the room to come give us a new drink. There should have been a raised door thing so he could stay in the room. But that was minor. The cheese sticks with lemon and BBQ sauce reminded my wife and I of a place on the south side we went to just for the cheese sticks. Now we gotta go out and find a place that will serve cheese sticks with BBQ sauce and lemon.

I took a photo last night of the front window, the light was right and it made the window all blue and depressing, and the FR and F were scraped off the window so it reads ickin and ox. It is a somber photo, sorry if it bums you out, but a few of us are bummed it is no more. Good luck to Steve, I hope your next adventure makes a killing!

Mr. Kas,

In reference to your story about the lack of internet access, I understand that you notified the papers, however did you bring those in charge at the Firkin in the loop on your plan? Were they aware of your requirements before you arrived? If not, then it is really no one's fault other than you own. Also, perhaps your condescending tone in reference to the "in charge" person and providing a "civics lesson" made those in charge less than enthusiastic about assisting you. Just a thought from someone who has been both in the restaurant business and the "in charge" person.

Want to do business in town? Get to know what's going on in town.

The newspaper asked me where we were gathering. I told them. I was not throwing a formal party, like Curly's and Growing D41 did, spending the PTA's contributions. Since the owner reads and posts to this BB, and Firkin was constantly mentioned by this subject group, perhaps a call to one of us would have worked. Maybe drum up some business. In any event, this BB group celebrated there the next night, with Gus, Fish, Fan, What's Next et al, and were treated well.

Here's my condescending tone for you. "Could you help us out here?" is what I asked. At that point, as you know from being the "in charge" person, it behooves the host to then attempt to be "enthusiastic" about accommodating a request. Not just dismiss it. The civics lesson consisted of telling him that we were expecting a large group for election results. I think I asked him if he voted. Sorry if I overstated my claim.

As to being in the restaurant business. They don't call me Ronald McDonald for nothing. 10 years managing McDonald's in the 70's and 80's, including the one on Roosevelt in Lombard. I bartended in Disneyland, Long Beach, Rush Street, Michigan Avenue and even the Stadium Club at Comiskey Park.

Levy Organization says it best in their training: "The answer is yes. How can I help?" And if you want condescending clientele, just go to Michigan Avenue and work there.

Probably why I stopped bartending. Bad grammar.

Don't worry Yoss, if you don't like the new Firkin's, Shannon's will be smoke free in January...

I'm a SoxFan myself...but the other color. And giving up 13...yes 13...home runs in TWO games to the Yankees does not help my team's cause.

Wonder who will replace Ozzie for next season?

Worked in restaurants and yes it does suck when this happens. Here is the way I look at this if you worked at a place any place would you like to know if they where going to close. So yes it is common courtesy to let people know whats going on. People make plans have bills etc. You can say you can find a job the next day not really it still takes even in a restaurant business. And when you do you're on the bottom you get the worst shifts, the worst stations etc. Also because of the odd hours, etc of restaurants/bars you tend to develop strong friendships with your co-workers etc so again giving people a chance to say goodbyes etc.

But I forget these people aren't likely to live in GE so what happens to them is not a matter for anyones concern. Just so long as your drinks are filled.

my2cents, not only did you step out of the spotlight, seems like they turned it off for you all together ! Though as I write this, your team does have a 2 - 0 lead in the 2nd, so there is some hope.
