I was driving on Roosevelt today and saw the sign for Motor Werks moving into the old Buick dealership in Wheaton.

I guess I missed this story.

I wonder if Motor Werks looked into the old Webb Dodge facility. It is in Glen Ellyn and car sales can generate some sales tax revenue.

I can't remember the situation but either Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, one of them cannot sell either new or used cars. I forgot. I was going to buy "used" car at the Packey Webb Auto center years back-it has just converted over and seriously this car had like 50 miles on it, and I asked why don't you sell to me new as it is a new car-never titled, no owner- (I looked it up) and I believe the guy stated they could not sell new cars.

How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, Year after year,
Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

Long story short, Motor Werks is selling certified pre-owned cars out of that location. Along with car sales, they will also be doing service there.

For a number of years I have been recommending Gearhead in dowtown GE to many, many people. Including many on this BB. My enthusiasm for Gearhead, other than the primo location, was the undeniable honesty and straightforwardness of Gearhead's former service manager, Dan O'Brill. For one reason or another Dan was let go by one of the owners a few months back. How a company could fire the name and face behind their company was beyond me (Dan was not an owner, though many may have confused him as one). I have been reluctant to mention this as I really like one of the owners of GH and feel bad for the position he is in, but to allow a man of unflappable honesty to be let go because your partner allegedly dislikes him is truly cutting your nose off to spite your face. Truth be told, I always thought he was doing them some sort of favor by working there and, as an admitted outsider, attributed much of their success to Dan.

As I had expected would happen, Dan is currently in a much, much better place professionally than he was before. He was immediately (within days of being let go) offered the position of service manager at the new Motor Werks store in Wheaton and has been werking in Barrington until the store opens.

I have known Dan for many years and consider him a good friend. The seemingly shortsighted mistakes of one of our local businesses has sent him into a less convenient and non-Glen Ellyn tax base community . . . but I will be taking my cars to Wheaton from now on regardless of the inconvenience (unless there is a Wheaton boycott in the future). That's how much I trust this man and his integrity.

Gearhead will undoubtedly continue and be fine. Just a lousy way to cut ties with a man who continually brought people through the door and made sure they were happy before they drove off . . . IMO.

Thank you for the information Clam.
Count us as one of the many that thought Dan was the man. Outstanding service.
GH has an awesome location for my needs and we'll probably use them again. But, it is sure nice to know that MW & Dan are there if GH doesn't maintain the level of service we expect.

Man, I just had my first interaction w/ GH last fall. Dan was total class. Further to his credit, I ran into him more recently while buying gas, chatted, and he said nothing about being let go.
