How can you not like Texan B-B-Q? Oh well, more delicious cornbread and pulled pork for me then . . .

Never understood the whole Alfies love affair either. We have been to Alfies and Texas BBQ once and will not go back. The burgers and ribs cooked up on the yigo92 grill are much better than Alfies and Texas BBQ. IMO

What, pulled pork? I thought it was 'cupcake?'

I think you know it was the former.

Well, my next guess was 'cornbread.' Please don't tell us how you got the nickname 'pulled pork.'

Hmm . . . maybe I would like Alfie's then . My cooking skills are probably average to slightly above, but my desire to cook is non-existent.

I swear I read in the local paper that Grandma Sally's is now serving dinner (to compete with Honey, I suppose) While trying to find the article, I ran across this website of local restaurants. Someone apparently went thru the trouble of photographing them from the outside as well...

Alfie's is fine. Kids like it. They have expanded their menu somewhat, and they added a Reuben which is pretty decent. It is what it is, and at the very least, they know how to pour a drink and serve food quickly. Prices are reasonable, and as you all know, I think Red Robin, even considering the great taste of some of their burgers, is the biggest ripoff in the western suburbs. If you have to wait at Alfie's for more than 20 minutes, I would be surprised. Even at the worst time. And since smoking is a thing of the past, the wait should be much less.

Mamattorney I too go through cooking stages. For some reason I have the desire to cook, maybe because I am trying to lose 20 lbs. and I know I can accomplish that goal easier if I cook instead of going out. Another reason I would rather cook is because I haven't found anything that is better then what I can make. I'm not great but I'm not bad either. Also I think your children are younger than mine. Ours are 12, 7 and 6 and it is getting really expensive when 2 of the 3 aren't full after they have finished their child's meal. I can cook cheaper at home for the price of 4 adult meals and 1 childs meal.

Tried Alfies once. I will never go back. I asked for certain garnishes on the thing and they said they couldn't add them (lettuce or tomatoes or something like that). I asked if I could have those items on the side and they also said no. Then they over-cooked the burger. Absolutely one of my 5 worst restaurant experiences anywhere.

My first meal ever in Glen Ellyn, back in January 1988, was at the Alfie's on the corner of Park and Roosevelt. I was told it was an "institution" and the way I interpreted it after my meal is that "institutional" was an apt description of the food. Most memorable was how cold my feet were throughout that lunch.
I've subsequently dined once or twice at the new location, but only when others are desperate to go there. And I would never, ever, stand and wait there. I know there are people who go in for that follow-the-masses mentality, but I'm not among them.

Thanks! I'll put it on the list. We love BBQ at our house! I presume it's OK for a 2 and 5 year old to go to? I've never really been to a "fancy" BBQ joint.

it really isn't a fancy place. There are about 12 tables in the place. We get it to go all the time. Great stuff.

We've lived here over 25 years. My whole family has always loved Alfie's! Even in the old place when there wasn't enough room for everybody to wait inside. We try to avoid the crowd times, but sometimes end up waiting a few minutes. They did a great job clearing the old smoke smell from those sections that I had never been in before the ban. It is still my favorite place to eat for a relaxing, no stress, meal. If you want a rare cooked burger ASK for it to be cooked rare. They do give you a choice.
