L'Anne sucks. Don't waste your time or money, IMO>

I can't let this go.

If SUBURBGIRL is a prominent GlenEllynite, how in the hell would she NOT know that the brewery was closed...three years ago! And that Grady's closed....then reopened as Big Bowl....then closed as Big Bowl...then reopened as Charlie's Ale House.

She may be labeled "prominent" because she has been locked in the basement of the Glen....for the last 5 years.

I agree with Amy! We have all messed up and recovered from it. Fan, go easy on her.

Suzette's is a gem. Period.

Been to L'Anne 3 or 4 times. Found it to be excellent, albeit empty, on each occasion.

You make it sound like we know her. I have no idea who CITYGIRL is.

And wait, aren't you the same people who have been pulverising Peter Norton, Vicky Hase, John Vivoda, JP, etc. for their lapses in leadership over the last three years. At least with them, an argument can be made that they were trying to do the best thing for the community.

Here, we have a writer who stole a list off the internet and submitted it as her own outdated work and we're supposed to just go easy on her? I'll let it go...only because it's not that interesting...not because anyone should "go easy on her."

I feel bad for the Glancer....but I have no sympathy for CITYGIRL. [whoever she is].

....CITYGIRL....too funny.

I kind of have to back up GE Fan on this one. And yes, it pains me to disagree with you, Scotty. Messing up is one thing. Lying is quite another. Not only did that sassy City Girl fabricate her story (a huge sin, IMO), but she lied to her boss when asked to verify the info. That is my definition of an idiot.

This kind of thing can jeopardize a small business like The Glancer. While the editor/owner may have made a mistake in believing her "reporter", the good news is that it will most likely never happen again. I feel bad for Lindy.

Now that is funny.

[EDIT - For the record, the farthest North I went was Schaumburg as I would have included La Titi de Paris (Wheeling?)...if it's still open Smile]

First off, good response, Glancer. Takes a lot of guts to write a mea culpa like that.

Anyway, I started to make a Glen Ellyn/Wheaton list and realized that it would be tough for me to make a top ten list when I've only been in about 15 non-takeout restaurants that are still open. Since I'm not as cultured as the rest of you, maybe that isn't surprising. But I'd revise Clam's challenge to the rest of you, can you make a Top Ten list for ONLY Glen Ellyn/Wheaton restaurants that you would actually recommend to people for a good dining experience.

I've often wondered about that place, Amy, I'll have to give it a try.

I knew we could turn City Girl's deceptive act into a positive that would benefit the community. That alone should lift the fatwa that someone apparently threw her way.

In no particular order:

1. Red Arrow Roadhouse, Union Pier, Michigan
My absolute favorite place to be. Both UP and RAR. I am never unhappy when dining at this loud, sort of cramped place. The fish tacos are worth the drive. Not to mention the area in general.

2. Vittorio's, Glen Ellyn
Ditto on loud and cramped. I have never been in an establishment where you are made to feel as welcome as you are here. Tony is a legend. The food? Strictly hit or miss. Tip-toe carefully across the menu and you will find a handful or two of reliable things to order. Roger is the best bartender in town, IMO. Gus shared his steak with me last time we were there. Surprisingly good.

3. Suzette's, Wheaton
One of the more laid back places I have dined in some time. Reminds me of one of Parker and my favorites on the north shore, Jilly's Cafe on Green Bay and Central. Great French food, comfortable room, outstanding wine man/bartender.

4. Mon Ami Gabi, Oakbrook (no apologies for liking a LUEY restaurant)
I have been enamored with this bustling concept Bistro from the first time I walked in. Rich Melman rarely does anything wrong. This is no exception. Side note: I also reeeeally like Antico Posto across from the Bloomingdales home store. Much smaller room. $15 corkage. Great food.

5. Any Francesca's restaurant, Everywhere, IL (again. . .no apologies for the chain restaurant)
I have been told by countless people that everything tastes the same at Francesca's. Kind of a proprietary flavor. That being said, count me as one who really likes that flavor. I have never had an unsatisfactory meal at any Francesca's. Scott Harris is a genius, IMO.

6. Country House, Clarendon Hills and Lisle
Used to tend bar and wait tables here in my youth. Best burger in town. Excellent buffalo burger, too.

7. Armand's, Elmhurst
My favorite pizza in Chicago. The End.

8. Cross Rhodes, Evanston
A hang out from my broke days. Best souvlaki ever. I am not a fan of French fries, but they have these steak fries that they cover in a lemony herb dressing that are indescribable.

9. South Gate Cafe, Lake Forest
Reminds me of my days rubbing elbows with the elite. Still take my late fathers former girlfriend there. She's like a second mum to me. Brings back good memories.

10. Walker Brothers, Wilmette
I despise going out for breakfast (perhaps I should say that I hate dining in restaurants in the morning), but this place is open in the evening...and you can get breakfast alllllllll day long. This food will kill you, but it seems like a nice way to go.

Thanks for your list but I am going to invalidate it due to the fact that only 3 of these places are remotely close to here.

And what is with your Armand's Elmhurst selection...we both know that you prefer the Elmwood Park location.

So is our list supposed to cover the entire network of suburbs?

And finally, I'm disappointed...how did Buffalo Joe's not make the cut?

Fan, the wine guy at Le Titi is a neighbor. We should go there....with my kind of pull, the Arbor Mist will be GRATIS!!

4MP. Salbute...ugh. The food may have been fine, but I could never get over the fact of paying $15 to drink a margarita in a room the size of a large closet.

Well done by The Glancer on your response. Forget the circumstances or who was at fault the timely, eloquent mea culpa with a promise to fix it
is exactly the attitude a small business owner should have in order to succeed. Thanks for the explanation, Lindy.
