Isn't this top 10 list in this area a question of the tallest short person?

Now, where did I put that moderately-priced fountain catalog?
.

Good one Clam! What I was doing was probably cleaning the house or surfing the net. Please I would never do something like quilt or knit!!!!!!!!! Bloomingdales sells perfectly lovely quilts and most stores sell sweaters.

This kind of thing can jeopardize a small business like The Glancer. While the editor/owner may have made a mistake in believing her "reporter", the good news is that it will most likely never happen again. I feel bad for Lindy.

I just reread the whole thing and I must agree that you are right and I was wrong. Sometimes my liberal thinking gets in the way of my brain.

What does that last line mean?

When will you ever learn? People love me, people are repulsed by you.

I know, and it hurts.

About the last line....sorry, Freudian slip. Confused

1. Is there really a CITYGIRL, and did she lie?
2. Didn't they just rehash an old article?
3. Nobody would manufacture such blatant errors.
4. The editor is the lazy one, who if it can be believed, does not even know that these restaurants were closed. My kids know FIGO took over that space. Why would a publisher of a magazine catering to us effete snobs not know that?
5. I can't imagine anyone being threatened over this article, and I don't believe it.
6. Sounds like an "over the top" response by the Glancer publisher to cover her butt, that may or may not be factual.

man, the other night when you said that we were kindred spirits, you were dead on. i couldn't agree more w/ your above assessment.

t.a. it was a top 10 list, so I had to choose my top 10. Also, I’m thinking you must be older than me because I only remember eating at 3 of those and never heard of some.

I almost added Grants lunch counter not that it was any good, but it was an adventure to sneak across Roosevelt and not get caught. Gee I hope my Mom doesn’t read this!

Wow, what an interesting thread! I hadn't checked in on it in a day or so. But I have to say 1) I can't malign The Glancer since they did a very nice article about me when my last book came out...however, yeah, this was a pretty stupid mistake but I admire the way they've gone about trying to rectify it. and 2) Mykha's????? I will never, ever understand the love for that place. I've been three times - once to dinner, which was so-so, and twice to that God Awful lunch buffet - both times I was dragged kicking and screaming by someone else who swore it was wonderful. Ugh. Rubbery, cold chicken wings under a heat lamp???? Any place that puts out a lunch spread like that does not deserve inclusion on a "best" list, IMHO.

And I have to add my own personal favorite, the standby place we always know we can go to without a reservation and get a great, moderately-priced meal: DeMarco's, on Rt. 53 in Itasca. Love, love, love it.

Agreed! And now that it is smoke free, it will be even better.

But, knowing good ole' Jerry, the smoking will still be prevalent.

Scribbler: how good is that garlic butter?

phase two of superette NYE kicked in at 11:30. tons of relatives stopped by and we played board games until the wee hours. thankfully, no one defeated the bananagrams champ, and so the walls were left unscathed.

fyi, your kids are great -- and i see a new pooch in their future. i'll email you the URL to the breeder we chose.

That's one place where I didn't mind the smoking; having to walk through the smoky lounge in order to get to the restaurant part is part of its throw-back charm.

And yes, the garlic butter is great! My favorite appetizer, which they don't always have, is the grilled polenta bruschetta. Plus, I love that they'll prepare entrees that aren't on the menu if you ask - I'm fond of veal saltimboca, and they always make it for me even if it's not one of the specials.

Oh, man, I wish my kids weren't Bogarting the cars tonight! I'd so drag Mr. Scribbler up there! (I also love the martinis - just the right size so you can actually remember what you ate, the next morning.)

gregg: do you remember the name of the restaurant that was in the building that is now alfies? i want to say it was opened in like '81 -- it was a real "fern-bar" kind of restaurant (a royko term, i believe). and i'm not talking about when it was a russell's BBQ. as i recall the old building on that site sat forever after it was big banjo, then, i THINK, they razed it and constructed a new building. i want to say the original restaurant was called Yesterdays, but i think that was the name of a failed restaurant in the track 29/patch brothers location.

do you remember?
