Just had a tremendous meal at Cabs. For some reason we often overlook this restaurant when we're planning a night out, but this evening Proud Hubby suggested it and we went on a whim. I'm very glad we did, and wanted to remind folks that it's a local gem. We'll be sure to remember it in the future.

We went there also.

When was you there? We went around 6:15.

Had a good drink and at that point I guess I don't care about the food. But from what I recall, it was good.....I think.

One thing I do remember. The kid that is still too young to not want to ditch us on any given Friday night pretty much cleaned his plate.....something I haven't seen in forever.

I thought this thread was going to be about the taxis at the train station. Roll Eyes

Thanks for the reminder - I do always enjoy dining at Cab's!

Clam- were you the very distinguished looking family - beautiful wife, handsome husband, very tall, polite-looking young man - that came in about 6:30? We were seated against the wall, table for two, approximately parallel to the far end of the bar, sipping martinis.

Proud Hubby and I split the goat cheese fondue appetizer; I had the seasonal risotto and had to be restrained from licking my plate. He had the salmon; ditto. A nice glass of wine with dinner rounded out the meal. Very nice, and really exceptional service.

Clam, distinguished? That would be like calling me tall. Charismatic, charming, funny would be a good description.

They were quite a bit older than I am. My son was the only kid under 12 in the place. We were sitting on the south wall.

Hmmm....so were we. (Seated on the south wall.) I'm afraid I didn't notice you and your assuredly lovely family. But then, Proud Hubby and I were very intent upon getting that first cocktail, as we were trying, valiantly, to celebrate our new Empty Nest. (Going out to dinner tonight was entirely spur of the moment. We had been planning on ordering in pizza, watching old home movies and weeping copiously until, at the last minute, we thought of Cabs.)

I dunno - Cabs just doesn't turn me on. I've been hang'n out at Bistro Monet lately. Michel can really throw down and they make my martinis just the way I like em.

I had that with the habanero sauce. Very, very good. The battered and fried green beans are a culinary exercise that is totally unnecessary and "silly", IMO. But I ate some of them, nonetheless. The potatoes were outstanding. They need to rethink their bread. Easily the worst that I have been served in any restaurant anywhere.

All in all....still a very good, well-priced restaurant.

Thanks for the tip. A good martini, indeed. I feel that the Glen Ellyn martini experience is now diverse enough that one can choose an establishment based upon the kind of martini you have a taste for. Bistro Monet filled a glaring gap in my libational repertoire. I won't ever have to risk driving over to Wheaton again.
