MRS. A, I have noticed a Facebook trend this time of year. Many former Glen Ellyn residents mention Portillo's as their first stop back in the area.
I was the same way. I'd stop on the way from O'Hare. When Mrs. P and I lived in the UK we used to charge friends two packages of Vienna Hot Dogs to stay at our house. Yes, we would force them to smuggle for free lodging.

I do this every once in a while (post food pictures), but only if I have something great and out of the ordinary to share. However, I don't analize my food. I don't wonder what the chef was thinking or wearing when he came up with the dish's concept or what he was trying to tell me, if anything. I don't think about where the ingredients came from, how they were raised, or what they ate moments before being harvested. I eat it, I enjoy it, and that's it. I used to believe that the term "foodie" stood for someone who enjoyed and seeked out good food. In the last few years, it's changed. Now it's about eating the strangest things, paying the most money for it, and then bragging about it.
I don't mean to offend. This is only my humble opinion on the subject.
Was in town for a funeral at the beginning of December. Stayed at the Holiday Inn on Gary Av. Thought White Castle sounded good at 9:30 at night. Boy, was I wrong! Never did get to Portillo's.
