Got my free issue this week.

Does anyone read this? More curious, does anyone have an intention to purchase a subscription?

I do enjoy looking at all the pretty pictures, but they really need to hire a fact checker. There was a little article on antique shops in Wheaton and Glen Ellyn (p. 23), and I believe each and every one of the 5 shops they suggested visiting are out of business. I assume they just went through a phone book from five years ago and didn't even check whether they still existed. Yikes!

Glanced through it...pun intended. Saw a familiar face - the Marvelous Mom feature - and enjoyed that. She is a marvelous mom! I haven't read it with much depth I'm afraid so I doubt I'd subscribe. I am disappointed in the GE News as of late and we don't get the Sun for free so I don't read it/buy it. I do like local features but I haven't been compelled to read it...

I was under the impression that the Glancer is paid for and written by some area business association. It is essentially just an ad. It's a bunch of "stories" documenting the latest trendy ways to spend money (which happen to align with services/goods provided by GE or Wheaton retailers). 98.6% percent of it is not geared to us folks who slum it in the YMCA district.

If you're not right, you'd be forgiven for your impression. The reason i ask is b/c there is a paid subscription option.

I'd be shocked if this book is around in another year. Don't see how those merchants could see a return from it.

I'm not right, apparently. See the website here for all the details.

Maybe it's because , in part, i work in media, but I'd be curious what their rate card looks like--not on their site.

If their circulation and readership are to be believed, you'd do well to place that ad depending on spend vs. reach.

This statement seems a bit of a stretch though...
"Women represent the majority of our local readership and see to it that others in their household, including their significant others, read it just the same...from cover to cover!

Prolly just me but i don't see that happening.

That's how people get beat up. Anybody comes up to me and makes certain that I read anything cover-to-cover...they'll get an elbow in the yap. I read it...was a puff piece. It ended up in the recycling bin...without the lady of the house laying eyes on it.

It also had a photo and words by Vicky Hase...and I am not her biggest fan. So, needless to say...it ended up in the BFI bin.

Well, i knew you weren't right, but being a newbie, i'm still feeling like i'm crashing this party, and i didn't know if a snappy repost would have gotten me expelled.

I will say those Glancer folks don't skimp on the print quality.

They have a lot of interns. And IIRC, one was pretty hot.

I'm not a big fan. I really gave it an honest chance; I read 2 issues thoroughly, and I don't think it's worth the paper it's printed on. It seems too "North Shore" for a western 'burb, and there was really nothing helpful/interesting in it for me. I think it's definitely geared towards moms with kids, which, as of yet, I am not. There's no way in hell my husband would read it.
