Chicks n' Salsa is rated as having the best Fish Tacos in Chicagoland. Chicago Tribune Tempo section has an article today which features Glen Ellyn's own Chicks n' Salsa.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/services/newspaper/printe...ov01,0,2344113.story I love the chicken tacos--so I guess I will try their fish. |

Did ya ever learn a new word or something new and then it seems like you hear it ten times in ordinary conversation within the next week or so? So it is with fish tacos. There was that thread listing all the greatest places to get them that you'll never be close to. Then there was a commentary piece on 91.5 this very morning about them, and now the Tempo article.
Odd. |

Am I the only one who whenever he hear/sees the words "fish tacos" thinks it is a slang term for something else?

I think I'll write a children's book too, entitled:
"Dinsdale Goes Off His Meds". |

I hope I can avoid that mental image when enjoying a fish taco or two in the future.

Well, unless you find yourself getting hungry... |

Yes you are. Can we please stay on track here? Speaking of seafood, I was thinking that if Pacific Blue had a more catchy name, maybe it would have survived. Maybe something like this would have worked. "You shouldn't soil your Sunday pants, like those other foolish ants." |

Damn this board. After seeing the article on their fish tacos I had to try them. Only took 35 minutes for my order to be filled. Apparently, many other people had read the same article. They were out of chicken, so no chicken taco, but I did have a fish one. While it was quite tasty, it was not exactly the same as the ones I've had in San Diego.

100% true dat. that's because chicks and salsa serves talapia, a bottom-feeder with a heavy, muddy flavor. talapia seems to be popular around here, and i can not quite figure why. fish tacos in LA or san diego are made of higher quality fish like mahi mahi, sea bass or some other mild white fish like halibut, scrod or snapper. now i'm hungry. . . |

Everyone talks about fish Tacos in San Diego. My old friend Doug is from SD and mentioned a chain of places that serve them...Wahoos, I believe. He pines for them regurlarly.
Never once saw the attraction to C & S. Been there many times and have not once been impressed by any visit. Still go there every now and then. Every time we get a clucker there it is sawdust dry. The worst thing I have ever tasted in a Mexican restaurant was a "pot roast" taco. Was told it was a steak taco. They lied about how good it might be. Truth be told, that may have been on the menu of the place they bought out. I Have never found a difference between those two places though. FWIW, I had the talapia tacos at Santa Fe y/d...they were pretty damn good. |

Being married to a woman who's family is primarily from south america, it's also my guess that it's popularity is in part due to a change in our country's demographics. I've had talapia and if not prepared properly it can taste like the bottom of Clam's shoe. However, when my father-in-law has worked his magic en la cocina, it it has been muy rico! Now that I think about it, everything he makes is damn good. Must be the all the lard he uses.

He pines for them with good reason. I absolutely love the place. In fact, I love it so much that I've been stalking the Wahoo company for franchise rights in the Chicagoland area. They have been ignoring me for 5 years. *******s! That place is a gold mine and they are keeping it all for themselves. *******s! |

Tilapia is the orange roughy of the new millennium. Utterly flavorless, annoyingly textureless. Nothing more than a vehicle for the spice and/or marinade you marry it to.

and don't forget, Talapia is pretty fun to say

I'm sure Grouper is a better choice.

The Potbelly boys opened a couple of places in bay area, you'd think the Wahoos would do the same. It's a very similar vibe as Potbelly's (not the one in GE, but the normal ones).

- They did? Where? I wish Portillo's would open somewhere. I don't know any place around here that serves Italian sausage or Italian beef sandwiches. I've come to believe that good meat is against the law here in Veganland. |
