I had to go to the Post Office this evening around 5:00 and decided to walk around and check things out. I found no bums and one GE police officer walking the beat. I guessing our "guests" were probably already stationed at the PADS facility, still it was nice to be bum free.

Feel free share your observations of the GEBD in the coming days in this thread.

Clam-Did you sell the manwagon?

I am not sure I want to know what this means.

Who's in for the morning of the 26th and who's in for the 27th?
Clam's new leaf blower is in. Can't wait!

I'm in for the 26th! Where should we meet and at what time? I'll bring my broom and dust pan as well as lots of garbage bags. My goal: No more cigarette butts!

Candidate, do you think the village would purchase some of the more attractive cigarette disposal containers, like this (or something like it)?:
Much more attractive and safer than trash cans

I think I'm good with either date.

GEYB Parade is on the 26th, probably not a good idea. On the 27th, my kid makes his First Communion.

BTW Candidate, don't forget to let me know your availability.

What time is the baseball parade?
Maybe we can do a little on Sat before or after the parade and then some early Sunday.

I 'll have to check on that one. Something steel or concrete might be better. Someone may find a way to use the plastic ones as a home furnishing.

I can do it super early Saturday as we have a game in the morning...but I wonder if it makes sense to do anything prior to the baseball parade. Although there is no candy allowed this year, IIRC. On the 27th...me gotta go to pick up a dog in WI and gotta leave early.

What about the week prior or after?

GEYB is allowing candy this year. Parade line-up is at 8:30 AM and starts at 9:00 AM. I have two games that day also.

I don't think it makes sense to clean this day, particularly if you want to make a statement.

Be sure to post when you are doing the clean up so I can be sure to head downtown the night before and provide you plenty of work.

Just eager to do my part...

This morning I saw an thin, older gentleman with a trash can, broom and dust pan cleaning the parking lot of the strip mall that houses Backstrom's and Marberry Cleaners. I stopped to talk to him and he said the work is something he does every other week, and then one of the stores pays him. His name is Robert and he said he also does the area behind the Banyan Tree Mall. He seemed pleasant and was clearly pleased that I had noticed there were not even cigarette butts in the lot or adjacent sidewalk. He also asked me if I had a store he could clean for, and I was sorry to tell him I did not. I asked the woman at the cleaners about him and this is apparently something he's been doing for years, and that his mother used to come around with him. The stores in that section share the payment.

I thought this was a nice "Glen Ellyn Story" and I wonder why more businesses don't avail themselves to his service.

Which Mass, Bitter? Mine is at 11:30.

Anyway, I'd suggest not doing it that weekend. There's an Indian Guides/Princess sleepover Friday night, the parade/games on Sat. and then there's First Communion Parties on Saturday and Sunday.

And on another note, I have personal experience with extinguishing a fire in one of those cigarette butt receptacles. It was a case of no one emptying it for months and months. But I'm sure that wouldn't be the case in GE..................

Wait...I know Robert and his sister. Not his mother. Haven't seen her around in a couple of years.

The woman I spoke to wasn't sure if it was his sister or his mom.

This guy needs an agent - there's definitely a local need for his services and he was sweeping that lot super clean. FTR, I have very high standards for cleanliness!! Smile
