I read on another site that Glen Oak sold recently. True?

Fish,

I am not 100% certain, but I saw Tom Letsos, owner, working there on Super Bowl Sunday, and it was business as usual. I know him pretty well, and would think he would have said something.

At any rate, I highly doubt what you read is true.

A bartender at Kenny's in LaGrange was supposedly leaving to work at the restaurant his family bought in Glen Ellyn and it was identified as Glen Oak.

Would not be surprised. That place was his old man's love, not his. At least that is what I have read into it. Nice kid but it seems his interests are elsewhere.

I do know that if he and other business owners could get the Town Meter Maid in an alley...they would slap him senseless.

Fish,

Sounds like you are onto something. I will do some digging, see if I can come up with anything. I agree with Clamato, the son doesn't have the enthusiasm for the business that his Dad did.

Don't misunderstand my comment. Tom is a nice man...who would rather be doing something else.

If it's true, I will miss Tom. Such a nice guy - always so kind and welcoming to me and my kids.

The clam man is right on this one. Mom has a house in Greece and loves it there and why not?? busting your A** for years and the Greek Islands waiting for you???!!! If you want to know what work is, start a restaurant.

GO is my fav! Tom was/is a great guy and I wish him the best. Quality is always good and the prices such that you can't afford to eat at home.

Lets hope the new owners don't try and build a better mousetrap.

Yeah I guess you saw this coming from the day Pete passed on. An end of an era, really. Best of luck to the new owners, but shoes are awfully big to fill.

Had dinner at Glen Oak tonight. The staff were apparently quite supirsed by this development. We also chatted with Tom to let him know how much we will miss him and to wish him well. It sounds like Mom just needs to take it easy and Tom wants to support his Mom. What a good boy! Smile The staff have been told that nothing will change right away and that any changes that do occur will be gradual. They have been told that staff will remain. Hope that's true - it's nice seeing people who know you and have seen you regularly over many years. If the new owners are smart, they will survey the current customers to find out what keeps people coming back and what they wouldn't mind seeing change.

Glen Oak always tastes better when Gus grabs the check. Rumor has it that the new owner is pulling the gypsy skillet from the menu Big Grin

Clam, you're always invited for dinner but please don't tell me the gypsy skillet is history! Great hangover food!

Tommy also has a sister that lives in Greece. I can't think of her name offhand as it has been many years since she was helping out at the Oak. I think Maria spends allot of time with her Greece. I will miss Tommy & Maria certainly seems like the end of an era Frown

The skirt steak and eggs is the best I have ever had! Smile
