Neither you nor any other contributor on this board is my neighbor. I don't live anywhere near Glen Ellyn. I gained nothing, you gained a wonderful facility. Finally, explain to me how receipt of $150K contribution from private citizens on a $350K project equates with "ill gotten gains." On second thought, don't bother, for all the obvious reasons.
Ack, Get off your Ack and go see the Hinsdale Park District six courts Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday nights from 7pm to 11pm (packed with guys and gals having fun, exercising, competing. Visit the Park District courts in Winnetka, six of them, see them packed and driving sales revenue into their clubhouse.
Get off you Ack and enjoy some ice skating with the dozens of kids, and adults, skating at Newton park when it was 8 degrees out the other night. Your tax dollars hard at work or wasted in water down the drain, depending on your perspective.
I suggest you take your NIMBY attitude and arms length participation to a retirement village where you can lock yourself in front of your screen and see Matlock episodes 24-7.
The Park District Board, School Boards, and Village is made up of do-ers, and/or complainers....which camp are you in? Your huge number of acrimoneous posts leads me to believe it is
I don't play platform tennis, but I will tell you that when you are considering a community in which to live, the different entertainment options, including tennis, golf, platform tennis, dog parks and miniature golf courses add to the value of the community.
I saw the courts at Hinsdale when my daughter played lacrosse at that park. Very nice. I have also seen the courts at Glenview. My client built a couple of houses in that neighborhood. These facilities attract a certain clientele, who have no problem contributing to their hobbies.
I don't play baseball, and my kids don't play it. But we have huge fields on Lambert. With lights. Facilities become a selling point for the realtors. That's a good thing.

I've got "Girls, Girls, Girls" (formerly Secretly Yours, must be a branding thing) on North ave. less than a mile from my house, does that help or hurt mu home value? I mean it is entertainment.
"Everyone thinks their opinion matters. Don't argue with a nobody. A farmer doesn't bother telling a pig his breath smells like s***."
My guess is more people play golf. How about a nicer, PROFITABLE clubhouse at The Links. If this village is so hell bent on spending money let's spend it on the many versus the very very very few.
Why is the planned structure consistently referred to as a "hut"? To my mind suggests a rather humble structure...
I support the platform tennis improvements a heck of a lot more than the safety village. Nice that they manage to tie the 2 projects together.
Of course, IMO the main question is whether our park district ought to be able to afford EITHER project, especially in the wake of the Ackerman building.
ST..don't make me come up there and biatch slap you! You've lived in GE long enough to know that the Links is owned by the Village, not the PD. Two separate entities. Don't confuse the two.
I must commend you, though, on your impeccable spelling!
Yes, I know but it drives me crazy. Like Peter paying Paul. Whatever. When I sell my house, I'll be sure the realtor highlights the platform tennis courts to the lucky buyer.
Glad to see you miss us as much as we miss you! We had about 30 minutes of sun today.
I went to the PD board meeting tonight to hear the board members discuss the paddle tennis hut.
I must say if I was Chairman Hess I'm not sure I could have been as calm dealing with Creech and Nephew's ridiculous comments. I couldn't be sure if they were just stalling (Fillibuster) or under able to grasp what was being said.
I hope the vote was taken tonight and while the current Board is far from perfect, the one that we have next might not be too good either.
