Why did the PD decide to lease space to this group?
Batting cages are great recreation, but easily supervised by a GEPD employee. If the PD wants to charge a user fee for the cages or turf infield than so be it, but let's keep all the money in the PD. Why share it with the Sox or anybody else?

I wonder if any of the board members have evey been to the DuPage Trainnig Academy or the Bulls/Sox Academy. The Sox Academy is over-priced if you ask me. They are just getting a great deal because they get to use what we taxpayers built rather than builing another facility on their own.

I heard they will decide this issue tonight.
Please vote against the Whits Sox taking over the batting cages.

Any minimum wage person can collect the user fee to use a batting cage. we don't know to pay the premium to have the collector in a White Sox uniform.

Are they residents?

When we first started using PD programs almost 20 years ago, pretty much everything was run in-house, with PD employees teaching and organizing every class and program. Look through the brochure now, though and you'll notice that almost everything is taught or run by an outside organization. This just seems like the model the PD has decided works for them...having the Bulls-Sox academy run the baseball side of things goes along with that model. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best use of our $ and the space we've paid for, but it's consistent with how they've been doing things.

I agree...Bulls-Sox is expensive and not particularly well run.

Can anyone point to a clear accounting of how much this is supposed to save/cost taxpayers as opposed to any alternatives?

i just saw that facility too at ackerman, total waste of space. they could have put in coin operated machines, paid a couple kids to run it, and made a killing for the village. instead, they con all these suburbanite 'my kid's the greatest' parents into paying a white sox mascot to show them a few fundamentals any neighberhood little league coach could teach.

that whole place is a failure for the residents, the park district should be held accountable.
