I received in the mail today a postcard about joining before Dec. 14th. When I went on the gepark site, there was a link to a pdf with information. I can't figure out how you join. The pdf listed the website www.ackermansportsandfitnesscenter.com, but I can't get it to work. What am I missing?

We got a flyer encouraging us to sign-up by Dec. 15 in order to lock in our rate for life. Thing is, I'm leary of parting with my money without seeing what I'm paying for. There's mention of a weight training area, but it could be as low end as pair of 25# dumbells or something fully equipped and really nice. Anyone have any inkling as to what type of weight training equipment will be at Ackerman?

We got the same flier in the mail and was wondering whether they had a pool. The card makes no mention of a pool, but I wasn't sure if that is indeed the case or just an advertising oversight.

At any rate, I'd love to take a look at it. The weight training, cardio (and pool if there is one) would be my interest. The price seems attractive relative to HealthTrack which is so expensive, it should be criminal.

I thought I saw they were waiving the signup fee...so what do you have to lose?

It's the spending, Stupid!

This flier has a pretty thorough description. Mentions bench and rack systems and other strength machines. Or were you concerned that the 25 pounders would be too much for you? Razz

Don't remember there ever being any mention of a pool, unless they are having leakage issues in the sub-basement.

It always seems kinda weird to drive somewhere to get exercise. Especially if anyone drives to use a walking track or exercycle.

But that's just me.

There isn't a pool. I was really surprised and disappointed about this. I wonder why they did this? I would join if they had one.

I suspect they decided not to include an indoor pool because that is something that people in town have expressed a desire for. Wink

I signed-up early to lock in the membership rate for life. The place doesn't open for three weeks yet they (1) charged a full-months payment for January (2) withdrew the January payment from my checking account in December (3) double billed me (they made two withdrawals!). I knew I was buying a pig-in-a-poke when I signed-up for the fitness center sight unseen but I didn't expect they would try to solve their financial shenanigans at my personal expense. I think they should pro-rate the January membership fees and stop the early withdrawal of fees.

I thought they were opening on Monday the 4th.

In the words of a GELWV honcho...you have enough money...you should pay more! Of course, she was talking about schools...but the PD is close enough. Big Grin

That would be great, can anyone confirm that they will be open Monday morning? As for the double billing, well I'll just chalk that up to an administrative error, just like the $4 million cost over-run.

Alxyz-I'm confused too. We signed up early to lock in the lifetime rate and we were under the impression that the facility would be open Jan. 4 and that there's an Open House on Jan. 23.

But I read in the Daily Herald online that it's opening Jan. 23. If the Herald is correct, I don't think you charge folks for an entire month when they will only have access for one week.

Can someone please clarify?

If you go to the park district site, it looks like it is open on Jan. 2nd. They list hours of 8 to 5 for the fitness center. The grand opening is the 23rd though, so I don't know. I know sometimes places open and then have a grand opening after being open for awhile. They are closed today, so I guess tomorrow you can get an answer.

Thanks Ellie, it certainly does look like it will be opening tomorrow morning. Just in time for me to start on New Year's resolution #1.

Now this is really getting confusing!

My wife just forwarded me this email she received dated December 30 indicating that the place isn't going to open until January 18. I am totally perplexed by the sentence "However, as a “thank you” for your patience, if we do open earlier your membership will still begin its’ 12 months on the 18th and not any earlier." What does that mean? And why were we already billed (twice) for the entire month?

Dear Member,
Thank you for your membership to the Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center! What an exciting time it is for the community of Glen Ellyn and the Park District as we begin the 2010 year with a brand new facility.
Currently the facility is undergoing its’ final stages of construction. As members, the Park District wants to update you on the status of the facility so that you can utilize all of your membership benefits as soon as possible. Your current annual memberships will begin on Monday, January 18th. If the facility is ready for you to begin earlier then the 18th, you will be notified as to that date and the facility will be open for you to use. However, as a “thank you” for your patience, if we do open earlier your membership will still begin its’ 12 months on the 18th and not any earlier.
If you have any questions about the facility or your membership, please feel free to contact me at any time at 630-858-2462 x123.
Thank you again for your membership!!

Sincerely,
Dan Kroger
