Well, if you successfully save Ackerman Woods from the chain saws and back-hoes, then it looks as if you all will need to get out there and save it from the garlic mustard! Wink

At first I thought it was a trillium - but, then I didn't! I'll have to look into that after the yard gets mowed.

Nice pix, regardless!!

Which makes me think it is a iris relative. Without the leaves in sharper focus and idea of the size, it is hard for me to tell. Smile

Blue Echoes - does dwarf crested iris sound familiar?

maybe. that thing was only about 4 inches tall.

Okay, it has been half a day. I threw in 1 photo in there that I normally would not have and I thought maybe someone would pick up on it. Only 2 people out of a 100 or so people that have viewed the gallery figured out. It is year 2 of me doing this as a side business and I wanted to go in a completely different direction than year one. I want to do more bizarre, strange, painful, artsy, and all together different types of photography than what I did before. Even though this was a nature photography subject, I am always looking for the bizzare. I love the photography of Cindy Sherman, and I find that I really like to do stuff the way she shoots, except I do not want to be the model for it. So I made it a point to go out there and take one shot in the style of a Cindy Sherman's "person in distress" thing but only with a tree instead of a human being. I saw this shot in the field and said "PAIN! Excellent!"

Now that I have said this, that shot will be clearly evident and you will thing I do have a warped mind. One of the two that got it asked a specific question about the shot, and I said, yes, naked.

Just looked through them again, and I have no idea what you are talking about.

damn, guess I didn't do a good enough job, or there are no Cindy Sherman fans out there. Especially Cindy Sherman in the early 90's.

Oh - It's tiny, then my best guess is a violet. Look at one very closely. They're much prettier than I thought! Smile

I don't really have an opinion on Ackerman Woods, but I just want to say that I hate garlic mustard (a weed whose name I did not know until this morning)! I have been trying to rid my yard of it since we moved here in 2005.

I will dig out my wild flower book tomorrow and see what I can find. I have seen it before at the Arboretum but I can't remember the name. It is an early spring wildflower, native to this area and could be any one of several. Give me a day or two to research it.

Probably Northern White Violet. Hard to tell without the leaf.
Almost all the other ground cover is garlic mustard.

Hooray! Once I knew the scale, I realized it wasn't quite so exotic as I'd hoped.

Yesterday I spotted white violets in a neighbor's yard, picked a few, brought them in and compared the flower to Blue Echoe's image 7. Very scientific. Wink

The garlic mustard is pretty rampant at AW - it is even the plant growing in the rusted barrel. Aggressive and invasive!! Frown

I walked through last night, and the GM was about 2 inches higher than when I was there Saturday. It is everywhere. It is amazing that there is anything else growing in there on the floor. This place needs a burn BAD.

AAhh, the "not my responsibility" defense, the sign of a true leader.

You want to revitalize Stacy's Corner? How about starting with that eyesore on the SE corner.

Revitalize?? Are they joking? Aren't they shutting down some business for this museum campus nobody wants? Sounds like another city leader in a city a bit east of here...

Very good - at least you have a better grasp of your audience's aesthetic today. Wink

What was I missing in the "Pain at Ackerman Woods" image. Give a little hint, please.
