Your point about the interaction between the Glen Ellyn Park District and Village of Glen Ellyn is a good one. President Pfefferman has appointed me as liaison to the Village Recreation Commission. In that capacity, last December, I asked Village Recreation Department Director Matt Pekarek to communicate with the Park District to make the suggestion that the Park District and Village work together on this, using existing facilities at the Village Links. The GEPD and Platform Tennis Association believe that the Village Links building would be too distant from the courts to serve as a warming hut.

Separately, the Recreation Commission and I have asked Director Pekarek to step up coordination and cooperation between the Village Recreation Department and the GEPD, and Mr. Pekarek has agreed.

Not if we put the courts just north of the building where the putting green is currently located.

What part of "no" don't you understand?

A brilliant plan has now been proposed by the PD with regards to the warming hut. Now it will be put right next to the new Safety Village! That way the kiddos can use the plasma and granite counters in the summer.

Read about it in the board packet here on page 55.

The PD got a little bit smart by only putting up $50k of the proposed $350k they estimate the cost to put up the hut and add in two more courts. The GE Platform tennis club has to put up $250k ($150k in donations, $100k in a loan secured by the tennis club).

Interestingly enough, when I add up the $50k from the PD and $250k from the tennis club I only get $300k. So, I am not sure who is funding the lost $50k to reach the $350k cost of the project. Perhaps this is an output of the "Ackerman Complex Cost Estimation Software" (ACCES for short) they are using.

This gets more exciting when you reflect back on the board packet from Feb. 2010. On page 21-22 they show the cost estimates to total $397,894. Again, this must be how the ACCES calculations work, or perhaps, they decided to remove the plasma tv and granite counters. We can only hope.
