There's a meeting planned and scheduled but not on the meeting list yet: Board "retreat" at Hilton Lisle/Naperville, 3003 Corporate West Drive, Lisle, in the Executive Boardroom at 8:00 am on Saturday 29 August.

The board members have mentioned it at previous meetings. They make decisions at this meeting for the year's capital projects: last year the Agenda called it "Comprehensive Plan Update." To find last year's meeting, look for the minutes of a Special Meeting on 4 October 2008.

It is a public meeting, so the agenda should be published at least 48 hours ahead, and the minutes afterward when they have been approved.

I hope this will include an explanation as to why the Bulls/Sox Academy is moving into our tax payer funded building.

I don't think a for-profit business should be part of this or any other park district facility.

We want to be so much like Naperville that it is scary.

F the Sox/Bulls Academy. Let the the kids play what the original plan stated....soccer, baseball, lacrosse. If you think one second of lacrosse will be played/practiced in this facility...you are crazy.

Never could figure out why school boards, park district boards....any board....feels they will accomplish more by holding a meeting at a hotel, restaurant, brothel, etc....at the taxpayer's expense (one would assume). What is the difference between a room in some anonymous Lisle hotel versus an anonymous room in the SARC? Retreat.....pshaw.

At the Park District web site, gepark.org, click on the tab at the top of the screen for Board & Staff, then select Board Meeting Info. You get an introduction and a table of meetings for the calendar year (archives at the bottom).

The PD staff, under the direction of the Executive Director, post the links to the agenda before meetings, and minutes a long time later after they have been approved (corrected if necessary) usually at the next later Regular meeting.

At the June meeting of the Park District Board, they voted unanimously to post the "Board Packet," the material that's distributed to the Commissioners before the meetings. That way, the constituents can get a better idea of what may be acted on before it's all over with, and have a chance to plan to hear or participate in the discussion.

As of just now, though the agenda for the Special Meeting was posted (late), no link to the packet has been posted. No doubt the Commissioners will ask the staff why not.

I do hope to get to tomorrow's meeting, but all I ever carry is pen and paper.

What other commissioner notified you or me about this meeting? Sounds like, what did you call it, witching, to me. If she didn't email about this meeting, most people wouldn't even know.

Actually, Commissioner Creech posted the inforamtion about this weekend's board retreat at least a couple of weeks ago - and quite frankly, she's done a lot more to be proactive about letting us know what's happening with the Park District than the Park District itsself has done.

And I agree that an off-site facility is an unnecessary expense given the number of park district facilities available.

Any revelations from the Retreat?

Another special meeting: The very short agenda has been posted for the Special Meeting on Monday, 9 November, 7:00 pm at the Spring Street facility.

The purpose of this meeting is to study and discuss the budget.
