Did anyone catch the article in the Herald about the $2.3 million in park related renovations to be started this year?
More then 1/2 is being spent at Village Green(Village Green’s redevelopment includes adding three baseball fields, a concession stand, two outdoor shelters, one basketball court, two tennis courts, a small skate park, a walking path around the perimeter of the park and a large playground.)
At least now I know why they can justify charging me and my three kids $15 each for a dozen nightcrwalers and pancakes and the fishing derby every year.
I knew someone would come up with some comment about this article. What this article fails to mention is that $400K of this money is coming from a Illinois Department of Natural Resources grant for land development for Village Green. Several people worked very hard to secure that grant money, I am grateful of these people, many of who donated their time to have this money awarded so that these improvements were not coming completely out of our pockets.
"Sorry folks, park's closed. Moose out front shoulda told ya."

Where is Village Green? I'll do a search, but the only thing I'm thinking of is the baseball fields west of the Links - which I thought was somehow separate from the parks.

Is this the same $400K grant that was aquired to "finish" Maryknoll Park? Looks like Maryknoll is only getting $30K, not the $400K that the board previously told us it would get. Maybe they will make up the deficit with the new Splash Pad operation at Maryknoll!
No this is a separate $400K. The Maryknoll money came from from the State under a Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant. The Maryknoll grant was given in the first half of the 2006 and the VG grant was awarded very late in 2006.

Village Green is on the west side of Lambert, halfway between Roosevelt and 22nd (fawell).
I took my kid to the Flapjacks, Flattops, and Fishing event on Saturday at Lake Ellyn. Terrific idea - but they charged us $15.00 each. So two kids plus dad for $45.00.
If you consider the price of a haircut, I suppose the price is ok.
But guess what, the hair cutters did not show up! So we got powdered eggs, pancakes, and a $3.00 trophy for biggest fish, for $15.00 each!
Of course, the GEPD did go on and blame the Cost Cutters Company for agreeing to come but not showing up. Whoever is to blame I do not care, but this type of event I would think could be funded out of our fees, and not have to be a money maker for the Park District.
