The agenda has been posted for the Workshop meeting on Tuesday, 6 October. One of the items is cooperating with School District 87 to build an artificial turf system at Memorial Park. The "packet," the backup and detail materials prepared for the Commissioners to study in preparation for the meeting, hasn't been posted yet (look for a P in the line for the meeting on the GEPD web site).
The meeting should be pretty busy, as the year's budget is also on the agenda.
My 11 year old son played football on some nice turf in Downers Grove yesterday. Earlier in the day, I drove by Memorial Park and saw the mud bowl the soccer game was being played on. What a difference. I'm sure Newton was also a mud bowl due to the wet conditions. Those fields are now totally trashed for the rest of the season, while the turf is a nice as it was the day before.

Doesn't help the field conditions that for the first season in the 15 I have lived here, daily practices are being held on Duchon with seeming disregard of the weather. And it has been raining. A lot.
Don't get me wrong...it is a brilliant move on the part of those that came up with it. If I saw my kid playing out there, I'd want turf, too. But the inadvertent outcome is that this bloody team is absolutely unstoppable in this slop because no one else knows how to play on it. I hear the victory bell ringing now off in the distance. That Hetlet guy sure seems to know what he is doing.
Mud can be your friend.
